Third Annual Shoreline STEM Festival to be Held at SCC Sat, May 9

14127352508_a630df3e3e_kThis Sat., May 9, SCC will host the Third Annual Shoreline STEM Festival! Activities are FREE and will take place in the PUB at Shoreline Community College from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The Shoreline STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Festival will be a one day extravaganza for the Shoreline community with activities for kids of all ages. In addition to a science fair, there will be hands-on science activities and demonstrations. There will also be a career expo with exhibitors showcasing exciting career opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

Mark Your Calendars For the Athletic Banquet, May 29!

2015 Banquet Flyer V2.jpgJoin the Athletic Department on May 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the PUB for our annual celebration recognizing our student-athletes with athletic and academic awards from the Northwest Athletic Conference and other special team awards.

Entertainment at the dress-up affair will include live music, motivational speaker Mark Matteson, a silent auction, a southern-style dinner and dancing.

Tickets are:
$12 for seniors, students and children
$15 for general-public adults

Tickets may be purchased by check or credit card in the Athletic Office of Shoreline Community College. For more information on purchasing tickets, please contact Program Coordinator Kathy Langer at 206-546-4746 or Athletic Director Steve Eskridge at 206-546-4553.

The banquet was started in 1998 and ran consecutively through 2006 before going on hiatus. Last year, we were glad to bring it back to celebrate our Shoreline student-athletes!

In addition to the banquet, which starts at 7:30 p.m., there will be a silent auction to raise funds for our Athletic Department starting at 6:30 p.m. A dance will immediately follow the dinner and award ceremony.

Seating is limited, so please get your tickets right away. We hope to see you there!

Nominations Open for 2014-2015 Classified Star of the Year Award

Dear Campus Community:

You are invited to submit nominations for the 2014-2015 Classified Star of the Year Award. Any Shoreline administrator, alumni, classified employee, faculty member, foundation board member, student or trustee may nominate an eligible classified member for consideration.

Shoreline Hosts Northwest International Education Association

International education professionals and college faculty members from around Washington State gathered at Shoreline Community College on Friday, May 1 for the spring quarter Northwest International Education Association (NIEA) meeting.

At this quarter’s meeting, NIEA’s mini-grant program was a main agenda item. NIEA offers mini-grants of up to $1,250 to faculty at member colleges to internationalize curriculum. The results of the projects are collected so that others throughout the member network can learn from and possibly adapt the curricula for their own courses.

This year’s awardees are: Melissa Delikat of Peninsula College; Paul Suozzo of Centralia College; Heather Frankland of Pierce College; David Such of Spokane Community College; Eric Basham of Tacoma Community College. The total amount of grants awarded is $4,750.

Also discussed was the Community College Master Teacher Institute, an annual two-day workshop that NIEA offers in partnership with the University of Washington Center for Global Studies. The…
