You can’t take it with you continues this weekend

The theaters production of “You can’t take it with you” continues its run this weekend with shows on Friday (7:30 p.m.), Saturday (7:30 p.m.) and Sunday (3 p.m.). Get your tickets online or at the door!

Plot summary: At first the Sycamore family seem mad, but it is not long before you realize that if they are mad, then the rest of the world is madder. In contrast to these delightful people are the unhappy Kirbys. Tony, the attractive young son of the Kirbys, falls in love with Alice Sycamore and brings his parents to dine at the Sycamore house on the wrong evening. The shock sustained by Mr. and Mrs. Kirby, who are invited to eat cheap food, shows Alice that marriage with Tony is out of the question. The Sycamores find it hard to understand Alice’s view. Tony knows the Sycamores live the right way with love and care for each other, while his own family is the one that’s crazy. In the end, Mr. Kirby is converted to the happy madness of the Sycamores after he happens in during a visit by the ex-Grand Duchess of Russia, Olga Katrina, who is currently earning her living as a waitress.

Kathie Hunt appointed as Dean of Humanities

Sometimes, subtraction is addition.

In this case, Kathie Hunt and the Shoreline Community College are taking a step forward by removing the word “acting” from Hunt’s title, making it “Dean of Humanities” as of Dec. 1.

“I’m very pleased with this change in status for Kathie, the college and most of all, for our students,” said Bob Francis, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. “Kathie’s work as acting dean over the past two years has been stellar. I’m sure she will continue to build on that work.”

Hunt said she’s honored with the permanent appointment.

“I’ve been part of this college for 24 years and have served on many campus and statewide committees focused on student success,” Hunt said. “I’m really excited about the future of the college and the Humanities division’s role in that future.”

During the past two years, the department has added eight new faculty members, an associate dean and an I-BEST coordinator. Hunt has helped coordinate expanded English-as-a-Second-Language offerings to meet the needs of growing international student enrollment. She is instrumental in the First Year, Fast Forward pilot program this academic year.

“I’m looking forward to continuing the alignment between the film/drama, music and visual communications programs,” Hunt said. “Humanities will to play an integral role in our transfer-degree efforts, which are so important.”

Hunt’s two-year term as acting dean was both a positive and difficult, Francis said.

“While such an extended acting appointment can be hard, Kathie showed her strength and leadership,” Francis said. “Our process for the permanent appointment offered a full and open discussion and review of Kathie’s performance. The very positive results of that process made the appointment an obvious choice.”

President Cheryl Roberts said she’s pleased with the process and the results.

“Kathie is thoughtful and committed,” Roberts said. “Humanities are such an important part of the education we offer and our students will benefit from Kathie’s leadership.”
