All hazards trainings on July 18

The next big step in the college emergency management plan is happening.

The All-Hazards Training is an excellent overview of what faculty and staff should be prepared for in various emergency situations.  The training is an hour and a half long and will be presented on numerous dates and times. On Friday, July 18, the trainings will take place at 9 a.m. & 12 p.m. in room 9208. (Full list of training times can be found here!)

This important training is mandatory for all faculty and staff.

For those unable to attend the scheduled trainings offered before the end of this academic year, additional opportunities will be offered in fall, 2014.

Faculty members are not expected to attend trainings that occur outside of the contractual academic calendar. Associate faculty members who attend mandatory training and submit a completed time-sheet to the VPASA’s office will be paid for that time at the contractual rate for non-instructional work, $39 per hour.

There is nothing more important to this effort than a well-trained staff.  Preparation, training and readiness can make all the difference should the college ever be faced with a critical emergency.

Honors program

honors programWhile grading summer mid-terms this week, please think about any of your students who might be interested in the Honors Program for the 2014-15 academic year.  Attached is an application you can share with those students.

The Honors Program is designed to offer a challenging curriculum for students planning to transfer to four-year institutions of higher learning or who simply wish to deepen their college experience. Students have the opportunity to work on in-depth projects in specific academic disciplines and to create a community of scholars with whom to share their ideas. The Honors Program encourages students to work closely with faculty to develop a research agenda for the one-year course of study.

Terry Taylor (Acting Dean of Social Sciences, Library Technology, Equity and Social Justice, World Languages, Honors and Parent Child Center) would be happy to answer their (and your) questions about the program as well.
