Financial aid information session

Please encourage students to attend the financial aid info session that will start at 1:30 p.m. in the library, room 4214 on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Students will have help navigating the financial aid process and learn the basics from Shoreline’s financial aid staff, be able ask questions and get help completing the FAFSA!

Here’s a look at what is happening on and around campus this week:

Monday, Feb. 24:

The SBA parliament will host a meeting from 3-5 p.m. in the PUB quiet dining room! Make sure to encourage students to get involved in their student government!

Tuesday, Feb. 25:

University transfer fair in the PUB from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Representatives from colleges in and out of state will be there to answer any questions students might have!

The Global Affairs Center will host a discussion on Arab-American youth and how they view themselves in the boardroom at 12:30 p.m. with guest Mary Toutonighi (Arab Center of Washington).

Thursday, Feb. 27:

A workshop called “More than the mirror” will provide information about disordered eating and provide an opportunity for participants to practice research supported techniques for increasing body satisfaction. Starts at 12 in the PUB quiet dining room.

The Multicultural Symposium Series continues with Dr. Michelle Kleisath (Equity and Social Justice faculty at Shoreline) and has a focus on race and white privilege. The discussion will focus on Tibet and China and white privilege in Asia today. Will take place in room 1402 and starts at 12:30 p.m.

The GAC will host a discussion on Indonesia in the PUB quiet dining room at 7 p.m. with guest Anita Sulaiman (Asia Business Forum).

Friday, Feb. 28:

Canvas workshop on Rubrics. 11:30-1 p.m. in 1308.

DECA is hosting a garage sale on March 1 and needs donations by today! Drop off items in the PUB!

Emergency Building Monitor Training and Duties

In the event of an emergency, Building Monitors are full-time employees who volunteer to assist the an Incident Commander and Campus Security in the implementation of Shoreline’s Emergency Response Plan.  The Building Monitor Training and Duties describe the qualifications and duties of the position.

Two Introductory Meetings will be held, 30 minutes in length, on Tuesday, Feb 25, at 11:30 a.m. in the Quiet Dining Room and at 5 p.m. in room 2925.   Employees can attend whichever meeting is compatible with their work schedule and supervisor’s knowledge. (Please see job description for additional information for classified overtime eligible employees.)

Each building or floor of a building is designated for one primary monitor and one back-up monitor.  If there are more than two participants from a building, we may be able to utilize the additional volunteers for other buildings that do not have a monitor.

The first full trainings for Monitors will be March 4, from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. or 4:30 until 6:00 p.m., both in Room 9208.  Attendance at one of the two trainings is required to participate. Quarterly training will be on-going.
