Read error messages and checkboxes…

When you see an error message pop up on the screen, read it! You may not understand everything, but if you look through the message, you can get the gist of it. Hackers can sometimes generate errors to collect everything you type and everything that comes up on your screen. If you don’t understand the error, at least capture the screen. To do that, hold down the Alt key and press the key labeled Print Screen or PrtScn. That will put the screen shot into short-term storage called the clipboard. Then open an e-mail message, right click on the message body and select “paste”. Now you can print it or send it to tech support for further analysis.   Source: SANS Institute

‘Up on the roof …’

tonyTony Diaz of facilities was caught on the roof of a building on campus. But do not be alarmed! He was performing routine maintenance that included clearing drains in-between downpours. Rumor has it that Tony’s quick action eased Mark McVeety’s concern over drowning as the skies darkened again.

aa49c93b56664973a0074a96c957b436Please join representatives from the Student Leadership Center in the PUB (rm. 9202) to learn how you can effectively utilize ECHO – tomorrow Oct. 3, at 12:30 p.m.!

ECHO (Click here for more) is an online tool that allows students to learn about and join the clubs and organizations that exist on campus. Staff, faculty and students can promote events in addition to requesting various services (media techs, graphic design, media equipment, etc.). We would like to show staff and faculty members how they can utilize ECHO effectively.

Free Google Drive training

The Google Drive drop-in sessions that took place last year will happen again this year too.  The classes planned for this quarter will be in the library classroom (4214) on Tuesday Oct. 22, 10:30-11:20 a.m. and Tuesday Oct. 29, 1:30-2:20 p.m.  The classes cover the uses of Google Drive for file management, cloud storage and the basics on how to use and organize Google Drive for academic use.

Please share this information with your students (particularly if you’re experiencing any difficulty with students utilizing it for your classes), and consider announcing this workshop in your Canvas classroom.  All students, faculty and staff are welcome in the drop-ins.
