College Council meeting set for Tuesday, Oct. 1

A College Council Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 2:00 – 4:30 PM in the Board Room in the 1000 building.

Free tutoring for students needing help

Have you met students that need some help? Direct them to the free online tutoring offered every day from 7 AM to 10 PM.  Students can chat with a tutor in real time, submit eQuestions, and submit papers to the Online Writing Lab and receive feedback within 24-48 hours.  eTutoring is available for these subjects: accounting, anatomy & physiology, biology, calculus, chemistry, economics, engineering (circuits & digital systems only), math, Microsoft Office, physics, Spanish, statistics, web development (xHTML, CSS, & Dreamweaver), and writing for any course.

On October 2, there will be a workshop entitled “The Joy of Note-Taking” aimed at helping students learn what to do before, during and after a lecture! Meet in room 1501 at 12:30 for the free workshop.

Make sure to support Dolphin athletics! On Wednesday, Oct. 2, there is a volleyball game against Bellevue College at home at 7 p.m., and a men’s soccer game against Edmonds at 3:15 at Shoreline’s home field at Twin Pond Park.

New media technician senior in eLearning, Chris Joss

jossI am pleased to introduce Chris Joss, our new Media Technician Senior in eLearning.  He is available to assist you with integrating media (audio, video, graphics, and photographs) into your eLearning classes.  He also will provide support for those using lecture capture (Tegrity) and web conferencing (Blackboard Collaborate) as part of your eLearning classes.

Chris is a Washington state native, recently returned from a 20 year hiatus in sunny San Diego.  He lives in Arlington, overlooking the north fork of the Stilliguamish River with his two cats Google and Lucy.

Chris has a fifteen year background in event promotions and branding.  He has worked with organizations in all 50 states providing logo design, typesetting, graphic layouts, and raster to vector artwork conversions to meet their needs. In 2010, Chris began working with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, and After Effects which fueled his love of media production.  Eager to expand his knowledge and proficiency, he enrolled in the VCT program at Shoreline Community College in 2012 with the goal of building a career in multimedia production. Since January, Chris has produced twenty promotional videos for Shoreline’s International Education recruiting efforts.

Chris has a passion for all aspects of digital media and production and is excited to work with the team at Shoreline.

A new Internet coming soon…

There is a new Internet experience on the horizon. The Internet of Everything or the Internet of Things is a technological shift for the near future, where more intelligence and electronic sensing devices are integrated into computer systems—from transportation to industry to home electronics—and businesses gain the ability to quickly capture, dissect, and utilize the data being received. This new Internet would also give networks the capability of handling the massive proliferation of a variety of mobile and programmable devices. Some highlights for the week

We hope you had a great weekend! Here is what’s on the schedule for the week. Make sure to add events to the calendars here and we will include them in DAAG.

Monday and Tuesday will be auditions and call backs for the fall play “Rumors” by Neil Simon.

Wednesday features a volleyball match against Bellevue College at 7 p.m. at home and a men’s soccer match against Edmonds at 3:15 at Shoreline’s home field at Twin Pond Park. (Go Dolphins!)

A few important academic dates to remind students:

Oct. 1 is the last day for a 100% refund as well as the last day to make schedule changes online. Starting Oct. 2, an instructor signature is required to add a class.
