Campus Updates 11/2/23

Events and News

Hello everyone, hope you are well.  The weather has definitely taken a shift downward this week and I need to do some serious shopping.  I thought I did Ok last year, but I have been feeling like I need more cold-weather gear!

One cure for that of course is soup, and more importantly Soupsgiving!  I am sure you saw the email but just in case you didn’t:

Who: All employees are welcome! You are welcome to enter a soup and/or come as a taster.

To gain entry to the event, you must bring an item for the SCC Food Pantry.
Why: To promote employee relationships, fun and to support our SCC Food Pantry.

Where: Quiet Dining Room

When: 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Register your entry here! Must have an ingredient list/recipe for allergy purposes. Last date to register: Wednesday, November 15, 2023, 5:00pm

I will be the event’s emcee and look forward to seeing all the creative recipes you come up with, most importantly, it is great that we are supporting our Food Pantry and Benefits Hub!

We had a wonderful day on Tuesday with colleagues from the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe Tribal College. They came to tour the Campus with a special focus on auto and biotech. We discussed ways we can continue to partner and serve our indigenous community. I was particularly excited about a very long list of ideas we created! We are all looking forward to the good work we hope to do together. Thanks to Muckleshoot representatives Dr Denise Bill, Madrienne White, Elise Bill-Gerrish, Justine Koble, Wayne Buchanan, Trustees Rebecca Chan & Rebecca Ringer, Crystal Hess, Rashawn Smith, John Henning & The SCC Faculty Senate, and the rest of our team for support especially Alejandra Salgado, Brandon Fryman, Aisha Hauser, Lucas Rucks, and Dalila Paredes.

Lastly, we had a fun celebration of Halloween starring the Parent Child Center team, kids, and parents! So cute, and what a morale lifter! Thank you to everyone across campus who gave healthy treats to kids and left the less healthy ones for us 😊 Great job Director Junaid Haq, who is really doing some wonderful work at the Center!

The Foundation Giving Table event is tomorrow, and I can’t wait!!  Looking forward to seeing some of you there and supporting our students!!  We are going to break records this year!!!

This weekend in addition to some work stuff, I am going on a Pizza Quest.  You heard right. When I moved here last year, I made the remark that the Pizza isn’t great here and most folks I spoke with agreed (I tend to like the greasy old school NY style). One colleague outside SCC said that they have a favorite place in the city which is really good and thinks they can change my mind! I will report back next week!

Have a great week all,

Cheers,

Jack

IMPORTANT | Election of W2 Delivery Options – Electronic or Paper

For all employees,

Shoreline Community College is required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to furnish all employees a Form W-2 Wage and Tax Statement each calendar year to be used in completing the employee’s annual tax returns. The Form W-2 Tax Statement details the employee’s wages, tax withholding and other important payroll information for the calendar year. Instead of paper copies, employees may consent to receive their Form W-2 electronically.

Benefits of the electronic Form W-2

  • Earlier access to the Form W-2 than paper copies.
  • No possibility Form W-2 might be lost, stolen, delayed or misplaced by the USPS.
  • The Form W-2 is accessed via Self Service using the employee’s Empl ID and Password.
  • Worldwide access from any Internet connection.
  • The employee has the option to print multiple copies at their convenience.
  • Once consent is given, it remains in force. No annual renewal is required.
  • Employee Form W-2 will be available in Self Service for the last 3 years.
  • Cost savings for the College by eliminating printing and mailing costs.

Employees must log into Self Service (Employee Self Service > Payroll > W-2/W-2c > W-2/W-2c Consent) and consent to receive an electronic copy of their W-2 form by December 31st. The steps can be found in the following Quick Reference Guide: 9.2 ESS W-2/W-2c Electronic Consent (Fluid)

Want a paper W-2; If an employee opts out of the W-2 consent (default), it is their responsibility to ensure the mailing address on file is correct. Paper Form W-2 will be postmarked no later than January 31st. Once the Form W-2 has been placed in the mail, it is out of our control as to where and when it gets delivered.

All employees have access to check and update their address via self-service: HCM Employee Self Service > Personal Details Tile > Addresses

The system will use Mailing Address type for W-2 Forms and if that is not available, it will use Home Address. Any other address type will cause errors and W-2 Form will not be produced.
