I am pleased to announce that Matt Jorgensen has accepted the full-time, tenure-track Music Technology faculty position and will be starting in the fall.

Matt started his music career as a student at Shoreline Community College from 1990-1992 before transferring to the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City.

As a jazz drummer, he has released 12 albums as a bandleader or co-leader. Together with his business partner, John Bishop, he founded the jazz record label Origin Records which has released over 650 albums since 1997. In 2003, the duo created the annual four-day Ballard Jazz Festival which has gained international recognition for featuring a mix of Pacific Northwest talent and exciting, progressive headliners. In 2019, John Bishop and Matt Jorgensen were named one of 12 Jazz Heroes by the Jazz Journalist Association.

In 2018, Matt received his Masters in Professional Media Composition from the University of Chichester and shortly thereafter began teaching Music Technology classes at Bellevue College. He has composed music for Cascade Public Media’s Crosscut Festival, created the sonic identity for Seattle’s PBS station KCTS9, composed the theme for KUOW’s Seattle Now podcast, as well as is working on numerous short films.

Matt is excited to join the faculty at Shoreline Community College.
