Faculty and Staff Commencement Cap and Gown Orders Due May 5

Commencement will be held on Sun., June 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium. All faculty, administrators and staff are invited to wear commencement attire. Your participation is encouraged as a tribute to the dedication and achievements of our 2015 graduates.

The deadline for ordering caps and gowns is extended to Tuesday, May 5. You can go online to order your commencement wear. Our cap and gown vendor, Herff Jones Cap and Gown, has set up an online ordering system that is very easy to complete for PC users, and somewhat slower for Mac users. You can access the Herff Jones website here.

All Users:
Customer number (46000591000) and the order number (#3207250).

Your order must be submitted no later than Tuesday, May 5. The College covers all rental expenses for regalia ordered and returned by the established deadlines, but not thereafter.

If you ordered during the past year:

  1. Scroll down to your name under “Faculty Name” to verify or edit your size and degree information. (NOTE: Support staff and administrators are also listed under “Faculty Name”).
  2. If no changes are necessary, click on Finished”.

For first-time orders:

  1. Anticipate a short system delay to place your order; there may be a delay from the time you select “New Faculty Member” and click “Continue”.
  2. Please be sure to click “Confirm” when you’ve completed and verified your order.

You may also order through Lisa Smith in the Student Leadership Center via email at lsmi@shoreline.edu. We do encourage you, however, to try the online order system first.

Please mark your calendar to pick up your commencement wear between June 1 and June 5, but no later than Friday, June 5 by 3 p.m., in the Student Leadership Center, PUB 3rd floor. After that time, you may pick it up on the day of Commencement at the Issue Room in the lower level of the gymnasium, between 12:30-1:30 p.m.

After the commencement ceremony, we encourage you to wear your regalia to the reception for pictures with students. It is imperative that all caps, gowns and hoods be returned on Sunday, June 7, at the conclusion of the ceremony at the drop off area in the PUB, room 9202. We must ship the commencement wear the following day in order to avoid late charges.

Please contact Lisa Smith at (206) 546-5862 or lsmi@shoreline.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

So far, only 17 people have submitted their orders. We strongly suggest that those who have already submitted their orders check the verified orders list here as computer errors/glitches may occur, and there is always the chance that your order may not have processed or come through as verified. Please call Lisa Smith if this happens to you!

Thank you for your attention and understanding!!

Call for Recyclables for Earth Week

earth weekWe need your clean recyclables!

The Earth Week activity “Making recycled art” will run all week long and encourage participants to make art out of recyclables. To make this event a success, we’re asking you to help us collect enough “art supplies” by donating your clean recyclables to be turned into someone’s masterpiece. You can help all this week (and possibly into next), by bringing your clean recyclables from home or your office to the PUB 1st Floor, Room 9102. There should be a bin set up inside that room to collect the recyclables – if the bin is full, please tuck them in the back corner fairly out of the way.

We need CLEAN plastics, bottles, jars, cardboard, etc. – anything recyclable will do.

Thank you for helping make this event a success!

Job Seekers Roundtable Fri., April 3 from 1-2:30 p.m. – How To Sell Your Brand in Silence

job seekers roundtableBe sure to tell your students about the Job Seekers Roundtable series, that’s all about giving students an edge in interviews.

This Friday’s Rountable is all about what you don’t say in the interview. The content of what you say in response to questions (and the content of questions you ask) is obviously exceedingly important in a job interview. What is less well known is the importance of the part of the interview that isn’t spoken – the way you present yourself and behave non-verbally.

Shoreline’s own Professor of Psychology Diana Knauf, will present tips on “selling your brand in silence.” As always top notch coffee and treats will be on hand, courtesy of Central Market.

This FREE event takes place Fri., April 3 in FOSS (5000 bldg.), room 5116 from 1-2:30 p.m. Job Seekers Rountables are sponsored by Shoreline’s Plus 50 program, but all are welcome to attend. We hope to see you there!

Be a Hero, Save Lives! Donate Blood at SCC Blood Drive Thurs., April 2

blood drive jpegPlease join us for the Shoreline Community College Blood Drive this Thurs., April 2 from 10am-4pm (closed 12-1pm) in the PUB Quiet Dining Room (9208). Appointments are encouraged, but walk-in donors are welcomed! To sign up, please call 1-800-398-7888 or visit https://schedule.psbc.org. A photo I.D. is required to donate.

Puget Sound Blood Center has been working on rebuilding their blood inventory for the few weeks and your fellow whole blood donors have been responding in force. Even though their blood inventory has been slowly getting better, they really hope to bring it back to a stable level (i.e. 4-day of blood supply).

If you are feeling well and have an opening in your schedule this Thursday, please lend an arm and help save three lives!
