NOTICE of Opportunity for Third-Party Comments regarding Shoreline Community College Dental Hygiene Program’s Accreditation.

NOTICE of Opportunity for Third-Party Comments regarding Shoreline Community College Dental Hygiene Program’s Accreditation.

A comprehensive “self-study” of the last seven years of the Shoreline Community College Dental Hygiene Program has been completed. This includes an analysis of everything from program admission policies to graduates’ success on national and state board exams. It also includes an in-depth analysis of the program’s curriculum, overall college support for the program and a myriad of other factors. The Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) is now scheduled for a site visit May 11-12, 2022 to help verify the program’s findings. The United States Department of Education (USDE) procedures require accrediting agencies to provide an opportunity for third-party comment either in writing or at a public hearing with respect to institutions or programs scheduled for review.
All comments submitted must relate to accreditation standards for the discipline (dental hygiene) and required CODA accreditation policies. Comments will be screened by Commission staff for relevancy. Signed or unsigned comments will be considered. For comments not relevant to these issues, the individual will be notified that the comment is not related to accreditation and, where appropriate, referred to the appropriate agency. For those individuals who are interested in submitting comments, requests may be made to the Commission office.
All relevant comments will have names and/or signatures removed and will then be referred to the program at least fifty (50) days prior to the site visit for review and response. A written response from the program should be provided to the Commission office and the visiting committee fifteen (15) days prior to the site visit. Adjustments may be made in the site visit schedule to allow discussion of comments with the proper personnel. Negative comments received after the established deadline of sixty (60) days prior to the site visit will be handled as complaints. Any unresolved issues related to the program’s compliance with the accreditation standards will be reviewed by the visiting committee while on-site. Signed or unsigned comments will be accepted, names and/or signatures will be removed from comments prior to forwarding them to the program, and comments must pertain only to the standards for the particular program or policies and procedures used in the Commission’s accreditation process.
A copy of the appropriate accreditation standards and/or the Commission’s policy on third-party comments may be obtained by contacting the Commission at 211 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611, or by calling 1/800-621-8099, extension 4653.INSTITUTION: Shoreline Community College, 16101 Greenwood Ave. N, Shoreline, Washington, 98133-5696.PROGRAM TO BE REVIEWED: Dental Hygiene ProgramSITE VISIT DATE: May 11-12, 202260 DAY DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF COMMENTS IN THE COMMISSION OFFICE: March 12, 2022(Commission on Dental Accreditation, 211 E. Campus Updates 01/27/22

Hi Campus Community,

Here are this week’s updates!

RETURN TO CAMPUS/COVID-19

  • Positive cases: Executive Team (ET) is closely monitoring the changing conditions of the pandemic, including the number of COVID-19 exposure reports submitted by students and employees. Reported positive cases remain low. Positive cases since the first day of winter quarter (January 10):
  • Student positive cases: 39, which is 2.14% of total students taking classes with in-person components.
  • Employee positive cases: 19, which is 3% of total college employees.
  • Masks:
  • The College is aware of increased concern regarding protective equipment to support working on campus. KN-95 masks have been distributed to front-line staff and to faculty who are teaching in-person; more KN-95 masks will be arriving on campus soon and will be distributed. KN-95 masks can be used until wet or dirty. Contact your Student Learning Equity Success (SLES) or Executive Team (ET) member for replacement masks, as needed.
  • KN-95 masks are just one mask type to consider. Per the CDC, masks and respirators can provide different levels of protection depending on the type of mask and how they are used. Loosely-woven cloth products provide the least protection, layered finely-woven products offer more protection, well-fitting disposable surgical masks and KN95s offer even more protection, and well-fitting NIOSH-approved respirators (including N95s) offer the highest level of protection and are often reserved for healthcare settings.
  • Ways to improve protection with cloth and disposable surgical masks include:
  • Wear two masks (disposable mask underneath AND cloth mask on top)
  • Combine either a cloth mask or disposable mask with a fitter or brace
  • Knot and tuck ear loops of a 3-ply mask where they join the edge of the mask
  • For disposable procedure masks, fold and tuck the unneeded material under the edges.
  • Use masks that attach behind the neck and head with either elastic bands or ties (instead of ear loops)
  • Whatever product you use, it should provide a good fit (i.e., fitting closely on the face without any gaps along the edges or around the nose) and be comfortable enough when worn properly (covering your nose and mouth) so that you can keep it on when you need to.
  • Read more tips from the CDC on how to improve how well your mask protects you.
  • Lastly, KN-95 masks, as well as surgical masks, are available at Welcome Desks in the 1000/Admin, 5000/FOSS, and 4000/Library buildings for those who forgot their mask.
  • Vaccines: the COVID-19 vaccine clinic will be open now Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays 9am-5 pm starting January 31, 2022. The clinic is in the Quiet Dining Room in the PUB/9000 building.
  • TestsCOVID-19 test types explained.
  • Curbside: Curbside pick-up and drop-off service is no longer available; items previously available through Curbside are now available through the relevant department.

EVENTS AND NEWS

Please take this online survey about safety

Each year, the DES State Office of Risk Management, together with the State Agency Safety Professionals Alliance (SASPA), administers the safety survey. The 2022 Safety Survey will be open for all state employees through February 18, 2022.

The survey contains language in the Introduction that provides the following clarification for employees who primarily teleworked during the last 12 months: The term “workplace”, “work area” or “work site” is used frequently throughout this survey. These terms refer to your home or any location that you have been to or are currently teleworking.

The survey is anonymous. Results will be collected by the DES State Office of Risk Management, then tallied and sent in summary form to each state agency. To complete the survey, please click here.
