Updates for Start of Fall Quarter

All Staff,

I am reaching out to thank you for working so hard to make fall reopening a success. We welcome students back to campus tomorrow and I wanted to provide some additional updates

Reopening – All of the below measures will continue to encourage a safe return to campus for all faculty and staff.

Covid Safety

  • Vaccinated & Masked Campus – All students and employees on campus must complete a vaccination attestation form and wear a mask indoors. Learn more: www.shoreline.edu/covid19.
  • Send any student who forgets their mask to an ASK ME station at 1000, PUB/9000, Library/4000, FOSS/5000.
  • For questions about COVID safety, please email covidsupervisor@shoreline.edu or call 206-495-7744. The phone is staffed during core in-person service hours of Monday -Thursday 8:00 am-5:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am-12:00 pm; after hours, call Safety/Security 206-235-5860.

Equipment for Online Faculty

  • For those faculty who are not teaching on campus and need equipment please request items through the Instructional Equipment and Home Office Request form.
  • Human Resources can provide equipment needed for medical accommodation of employees while working remotely; contact scchr@shoreline.edu directly.

De-escalation Protocol

The executive team trained today on de-escalation basics. The same training was presented to all staff on Friday, September 24 during opening week. The training was conducted by Greg Cranson and will continue to be available to staff (details forthcoming). A reminder to all faculty and staff that in the engagement with students or the public we would ask that you:

  1. Remind people that wearing a mask is mandatory and ask for compliance. There will be no exemptions made for any student or staff that will allow for anyone to be unmasked indoors.
  2. If you don’t receive compliance, then indicate to the student that it may be an issue of student discipline.
  3. If you continue to receive non-compliance, pause your class, exit the room and call the COVID-19 Supervisor at 206-495-7744 to gain assistance.  Security can be reached at 206-235-5860.
  4. Begin your service or class again if the student/person becomes compliant or removes themselves from the situation. If the situation does not resolve itself quickly, you may need to cancel your course (please update your dean if this occurs).

Construction on HSAMCC

  • The 2500 and 2400 buildings are under demolition for the next 3-4 weeks, Monday – Friday from 7:00 am-5:30 pm.
  • Trucks exiting and leaving campus along with flaggers and signage to assist with traffic control. Noise from an excavator is also expected.
  • Dust controlling measures are in place along with air monitors set up around the site to ensure no particulates leave the construction area.

Housekeeping Items

Thank you for all that you do for our students!

Campus Reopening Updates from September 23

Good morning Shoreline Staff,

As we start Opening Week today and get ready to start the Fall quarter next week, please review a few housekeeping items regarding campus reopening:

Campus Access

  • Employees no longer need to request permission to come to campus.
  • Faculty are not mandated to work in their offices on campus, but may elect to use their office space.  Meeting with students one-on-one or for office hours should continue to be done online or in maintained spaces on campus, such as your classroom if you are teaching on campus or in the study rooms in the Library. Faculty office spaces will not be maintained or cleaned by the College.
  • Core in-person service areas, such as the Library, are regularly cleaned and maintained by the College. A list of these areas can be found on the COVID-19 Updates for Faculty & Staff page and Hours of Operation
  • Curbside Pick-up/Drop-off Service will continue to be available to all students and employees, regardless of vaccinated status; it is a contactless service.

Fall Reopening Updates & Reminders

  • Masks are required in all indoor settings.
  • Social distancing is not mandated. While no office on campus is authorized to require social distancing, individuals may request social distancing from others during interactions.
  • Personal inquiries into individual vaccination status are highly discouraged. Please respect your colleagues’ privacy.
  • If you have concerns about how to navigate folks who do not follow College procedures, learn more about the campus de-escalation guidance during the de-escalation offering during Opening Week on Friday at 2 pm and Monday at 9 am
  • Learn about COVID-19 College Procedures and Guidelines during an Opening Week session on Friday at 1 pm.
  • Ask questions at the Campus Update and Town Hall on Thursday, September 23 at 1 pm.

Vaccination Attestation Reminder

All employees must show proof of vaccination.  The following times are available during Opening Week (via Zoom, as noted) to briefly connect with Human Resources to show proof of vaccination.

  • Thursday, September 23, 9:00am-12:00pm – ONLINE

  • Friday, September 24, 12:00-2:30pm – ONLINE
