National POW/MIA Recognition Day

Shoreline’s Veterans Services would like to share that the 2018 National POW/MIA Recognition Day is Friday, September 21.

This annual event honors our missing service members and their families and highlights the government’s commitment to account for them.

According to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, more than 83,000 Americans remain missing from WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the Gulf Wars/other conflicts. Out of the 83,000 missing, 75% of the losses are located in the Asia-Pacific, and over 41,000 of the missing are presumed lost at sea (e.g., ship losses, known aircraft water losses).

There are 58,318 names etched in the black granite of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. Still considered unaccounted for are 1,594 Americans, for whom their families await word of their fate. As a Commemorative Partner of the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, Shoreline Community College joins others in encouraging our community to pause to remember the sacrifices of those who were prisoners of war, as well as those who remain unaccounted for and their families.

The stark black and white banner symbolizing America’s Missing in Action and Prisoners of War is flown below the US flag as a solemn reminder of our obligation to always remember the sacrifices made to defend our Nation.

Student email sign-up redesigned

TSS has redesigned the Student Email Sign-up system, which every student uses to activate their student email account and reset their password, to be easier to use. The redesigned web application is responsive, meaning it flexes to fit different screen sizes and works well on mobile phones as well as desktop computers and tablets. We have also simplified and improved the instructions and processing to make it easier for students. See the new application at http://www.shoreline.edu/email.
