Follow-Up Message from Payroll Manager D. Bryant: Sick Leave Buyout for 2022 – Deadline is 3 p.m., 1/31/23
Good Morning,
I am sorry if my previous email has confused you. Under the Washington State Policy Chapter 25. 40.30 you must:
- Have a sick leave balance of 480 hours or more before you are eligible for the sick leave buyout.
- Can only have a buyout amount of
- Leave accrued – minus leave taken = amount available for buyout (at ¼ the hours) OR
- Or the max allowed amount above 480, when this amount is reached during the current year
i. (example) At the end of December 2022 you were at 523.69 hours; you accrued 51.33 hours, you used zero hours. Your eligible buyout amount would be 43.69 (523.69-480=43.69).
- Finally, to check to see if you are eligible, please follow the steps below
- Log into ctcLink
- Chose HCM Self-Service
- Click the Time Tile
- Click the Absence Balance Tile
i. Look at your sick leave balance, if this number is lower than 480 hours > then you are not eligible for the sick leave buyout and will more than likely see this message:
- If you have other messages, please take a snip-it of the message and send that to payroll@shoreline.edu and I will follow up with you.

Shout-Outs!
Shout-out to Quang Le & Tommy Harvey of Facilities & Capital Projects for Inclusive Excellence, Respect and Sharp awareness! They were here (@5100) to assess one problem, a door lock malfunction, and noted fluorescent light tubes were out. They quickly retrieved a box of new tubes and replaced all the burned-out ones. They did so deftly with grace, humor and quick, sharp skills. Thanks so very much, Quang and Tommy! The work area is so much brighter now! submitted by Jeff Keith, SCC Mail Driver and SCC Shipping & Receiving department.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day
As you may know, today is International holocaust remembrance day. This date (January 27th) is chosen because it was on January 27th that Auschwitz Birkenau was liberated. People around the world recognize and commemorate the 6,000,000 Jewish people and millions of other victims of the holocaust on this day.
While there are many ways to commemorate those who perished, the United Nations “urges every member state to honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism and to develop educational programs to help prevent future genocides”. Certainly, this is commensurate with our DEI goals and mission as an institution of higher education. Throughout the world and this nation, genocides of various types have occurred and continue to occur. It is our duty to stand against regimes that would perpetuate the philosophies of the Nazis regardless of the nomenclature used or methods of persecution. I am very proud to be a member of a college that has done so throughout our educational programs and will continue to do so in the future.
In peace and in remembrance,
Jack
