Heat Safety Tips

  •  All employees should make a conscious effort to ensure proper hydration and ventilation.
  • Drink plenty of water, and have a beverage with you at all times.
  • Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink.
  • Avoid drinks with caffeine and/or large amounts of sugar which can increase dehydration.
  • Take regular breaks as needed in cooler areas where possible.
  • On campus employees can visit the air-conditioned Bldg 9000 – PUB throughout the day.
  • If working at home, cover/close windows that receive morning and afternoon light to reduce heat entering your home.
  • Any employee who works is working without air conditioning may submit leave for any hours the individual is uncomfortable working due to the heat.
  • If the employee has a health condition that is affected by the heat, sick leave may also be used for necessary time away.
