EVENTS AND NEWS
Hello all –I hope your week is going well. Last week was, of course, brief because of the holiday. I finished up the interview process for the Planning and Institutional Effectiveness leadership position. It was a great process, and I will be updating you on the results soon.
Hope you all had a great time over the week with family and friends. My wife and I spent the holiday on Whidbey Island. It was fun! The weather was mostly good, and we really enjoyed touring around the island. The food was great, and the people were friendly- a real gem!
This week I have two great meetings to share with you. One with State Representative Javier Valdez. It was great to meet him and to advocate for the state’s legislative priorities which include higher pay for faculty and staff, DEI, workforce, and Distance Education. He is a real equity champion in the state and I’m looking forward to working with him in the future. I invited him to come tour campus and he suggested it would be great- so keep an eye out in the spring!
Finally, I attended Governor Inslee’s Equity Summit: Working Together for Results with Trustee Rebecca Chan. It was great meeting folks from various public sectors and hearing Washington state leaders’ commitment to DEI work. I learned some things as well that I hope to include in my own commitment. All of us were given a copy of the book!
Have a great week all,
Jack
