EVENTS AND NEWS
Good afternoon folks,
One of the major highlights of the week was the Government-To-Government Summit between Tribal leaders from the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, The Tulalip Tribes, the Suquamish Tribe, and the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe with Presidents, Board members, and other staff and faculty leaders from Edmonds College, Cascadia College, Everett Community College, Lake Washington Institute of Technology, and Shoreline Community College. We learned so much from our tribal leaders. Plans are already in process. We are looking forward to the action steps to serve!
Shoreline Community College also screened the ”Buffalo Soldiers Fighting on Two Fronts” film accompanied by the Buffalo Soldiers of Seattle and a community panel with Black Coffee Northwest’s Darnesha Weary, SCC film faculty Tony Doupe and Duygu Monson, and Vice President Melanie Dixon. It was amazing. The film used creative and engaging interwoven storytelling and was full of deep, rich history. It is so moving. It will be available on PBS on Juneteenth but keep an eye out locally for more screenings.
We also had a great meeting with the College Council about Participatory Governance. Thanks to presenters from Clackamas, Everett, and Palomar College and the 50+ folks who showed up for the meeting via ZOOM and in person. The College Council will be processing the presentation in our next meeting and determining the next steps for the college. More to come!
Also, a very busy week with just “stuff”. Less interesting to share but you all know what I mean. Thanks for all that you do.
Cheers,
Jack
