Annual Campus-Wide Alarm Testing, Aug. 31 – Sept. 4

Required annual fire safety alarm testing will begin August 31 and will run through September 4. During the week, you may see Simplex Grinnell technicians in your building or hear an occasional alarm sound. The alarms are being monitored and should quickly cease. We test this time of year to bring the least amount of disruption possible. We are required by law to test all fire alarm systems on an annual basis and we apologize in advance for any disruption.

If you have questions about this safety practice, please contact Security at 206-546-4633.

FirstLink Go-Live: Day 1

Do you use the HP 3000? If so, this update might be of interest to you! It’s really happening…ctcLink is the SBCTC’s project to replace the old student information system in use at WA State community colleges. More info…

The ctcLink system was turned over to the FirstLink colleges today and college subject matter experts and staff spent the day activating their new accounts, starting to navigate the system and logging service tickets with their local help desks and the SBCTC/ctcLink Service Desk.

In all, 1,167 people activated their account in ctcLink and more than 300 of those were students. More than 135 tickets were logged to the SBCTC/ctcLink Help Desk and, so far, nearly 65 percent of those have been resolved. Many of those issues were login and security-related, which was to be expected. A lot was accomplished today, but there is much more work to do. The project team is looking forward to a productive ‘Day 2.’

Long-Time Business Faculty Member Jerry Baker Passes

jerry bakerJerry Baker, one of Shoreline’s Business Faculty, passed away on Sat., August 15. Baker had taught at Shoreline since September 1998 in the Supply Chain Management program, and he was instrumental in building the program and recently achieved Quality Matters certification for all of his online courses (the entire program is taught online).

Baker joined the faculty at Shoreline Community College after a long career in Supply Management. His most recent position prior to joining us was as the Executive Vice President of the Institute for Supply Management (the professional society for individuals in supply management). He loved teaching here, and he often told Cathy Otto that he was teaching to “give back to his profession.” We are particularly fortunate to have had Jerry share his passion for his profession, for student development and for excellence. We are grateful that he chose Shoreline Community College to share his expertise.
