“Amy’s commitment to our mission and vision is unquestionable,” Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Bob Francis said in making the announcement on May 19, 2015. “Since joining our faculty, Amy has been a consistent advocate for students, staff and faculty.”

Kinsel, who earned Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in History at Cornell University, has been teaching history at Shoreline since 2004. She received a BA in History from the University of Puget Sound.

“I am so pleased to accept this dean position,” Kinsel said. “I’m enthusiastic about the course President Roberts is setting for our college over the next few years. I look forward to working with the entire college community, particularly my division, to create a vibrant and thriving future for Shoreline and our students.”

Francis noted that there were very strong candidates for the position and thanked the search committee members for their work and insights that helped in moving through the decision-making process.

“During her years at Shoreline, Amy has served on virtually all the key college-wide committees and councils both as a member and in leadership positions,” Francis said. “I am confident that her long involvement with the college’s governance system gives her a unique perspective that should serve the college as we move forward.”

Kinsel serves on College Council, the Student Success Coordinating Committee, the Advising Ad Hoc Team, Joint Union Management Committee, and the Strategic Planning Budget Committee. Nationally, she serves on the Executive Board of the Organization of American Historians.

Kinsel is President, American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Washington Local 1950 at Shoreline, a job she will resign before moving to the dean position. She is also Vice President for Legislative Affairs for AFT Washington, the union that represents faculty at many colleges across the state. In her AFT Washington role, Kinsel has testified before various committees in the state Legislature and recently spoke at a meeting of the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.

Kinsel will take over the dean position from Terry Taylor, who has been serving in an acting capacity since July 1, 2014. Taylor filled in when Francis moved from the same dean positon to his current vice-president role. Taylor will return to his position as a professor of History and Political Science. He also oversees the Honors Program and the Shoreline chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.

“Terry Taylor did an incredible job over the past year,” Francis said. “I look forward to his continued wit, wisdom and support.”

Francis said he expects Kinsel will move into the dean position sometime after July 1, 2015.

Special Guest Soloist at Shoreline Concert Band’s Spring Concert: “Proud to be American,” Tues., May 19

Saxophonist Gunnery Sergeant David Jenkins, center.

Saxophonist Gunnery Sergeant David Jenkins (center) of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band will perform with the Shoreline Concert Band Tues., May 19.

The Shoreline Concert Band’s Spring Concert, “Proud to be American,” is this Tues., May 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Shorewood High School’s Performing Arts Center. The performance is free, but donations for the Music Scholarship Fund are accepted at the door.

The concert will feature guest soloist Saxophonist Gunnery Sergeant David Jenkins, member since 2004 of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. Gunnery Sgt. Jenkins performs with the Marine Band at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour. His appearance at the Shoreline Concert Band’s concert is made possible by a grant from the Shoreline-LFP Arts Council.

The performance will also feature special guest groups including the University of Washington Campus Band, directed by graduate student Alison Farley, and the Kellogg Middle School Wind Ensemble directed by Alex Wilmart.

This concert will feature selections dear to the hearts of Americans – everything from a rousing playing of “Stars and Stripes Forever” to the “American Elegy,” reflective of the Columbine massacre. This is the final performance for the group of the academic year.

It’s He-ere! Employee Email Migration Happening Tues., May 19

migrate
As noted previously, employee email accounts are undergoing a migration from being located on campus to living in “the cloud” on servers managed by Microsoft. The migration will occur Tues., May 19.

To help minimize the impact of this process, TSS staff will be stationed around campus on the morning of the migration starting at approximately 8 a.m. They’ll be at:

  • 1000 Bldg.
  • PUB
  • FOSS
  • VCT
  • Nursing
  • 1300, 1400, 1500 —> TSS staff will swing in and out as time allows.
  • Music —> Owen Strain will be the point person

After staying a while, if there is no activity, the TSS staff may visit another location or head back to their office.

You can always get help by calling the TSS helpline at 206-546-5872 or submit a support request at help.shoreline.edu.

The migration process is expected to be complete by 12 p.m.

How Can I Prepare?
Microsoft Outlook is the product TSS recommends for email, calendar, and contacts. Using Outlook on whatever device you are using should provide the least disruption.

What Will Happen on My Work PC?

  • On a campus PC, you will be prompted to quit and restart Outlook once the migration has completed for your account.

What Will Happen on My Personal (non-work) Phone or Computer?

  • Older computers/devices may stop working. In that case you will need to access employee email and calendars via mail.shoreline.edu
  • You will likely need to delete your email account from your device and then re-add it.

For further details please visit this email migration page on the intranet.
