Extreme gratitude to Chippi Bello and Courtnay Llacuna for all the incredible assistance they provided in so very patiently working on travel authorizations and all things travel- and conference-related. Dear Shoreline Staff,
During the Winter & Spring Quarters, we hired two new Associate Deans, Dalila Paredes (STEM & Workforce) and Shanon Reedy (BCSS). They both bring a diversity of experiences to the Shoreline community which you can read more about below. Please note that both of the following passages were co-written by each dean and new associate dean.
Dalila Paredes – Associate Dean of STEM & Workforce
Joining the Shoreline community with eleven years of experience as faculty at community colleges both in and out of state, we welcome Dalila Paredes as our Associate Dean of Workforce & STEM.
Throughout her career, Dalila has leveraged a lens of equity and inclusion to create equitable learning environments for historically underserved students, faculty, and staff. Most recently, she served as the Director for Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) at Clark College, and under her leadership, MESA received a $350,000 grant which was used to intentionally serve marginalized students during the pandemic. Dalila also has successful teaching experience in both chemistry and biology at Amarillo College and Clark College.
She is deeply committed to serving the Shoreline community and is especially excited about exploring innovative ways of engaging, supporting, and retaining students of color. “Our students are highly capable and bring their own lived experiences to our classrooms which are their strengths. I feel a deep responsibility to ensure that Shoreline creates learning environments where our communities feel safe and supported to take the next steps in their career and in life. Si se puede!”
Outside of work, Dalila enjoys crafting with leather, wood, and glass, adding to her growing collection of plants and books, and spending quality time in nature and with her family.
Shanon Reedy – Associate Dean of BCSS
We welcome Shanon Ehmke Reedy as the new Associate Dean of Business, Communication Studies, and Social Sciences. Shanon brings several higher education experiences to Shoreline Community College, most recently from Bellevue College, University of Washington, and Roosevelt University (RU) in Chicago. In her most recent role as Principal Program Manager, she had oversight over staff and programming in four applied baccalaureate degrees. Shanon was a founding member of the SBCTC’s Baccalaureate Leadership Council and is currently on the executive committee.
Shanon has teaching experiences at both 4-year and 2-year institutions. At RU she taught classes for adult students in the Bachelor of General Studies program, and this included the Seminar in Social Science. She currently teaches marketing research classes at Bellevue College. Shanon continues to teach in order to see students for, “not what they have done or where they come from, but for what they can become.”
Shanon also has over 25 years of experience in higher education including advising, disability services, corporate and continuing education, outreach and recruitment, enrollment management, program and curriculum development, faculty development and support, assessment, and instruction. While Shanon’s experience has crossed different types of college and university settings, her heart lies in the mission of the Community College, access to higher education.
Shanon has been married to her husband Chris for 20 years. They have two children, Ethan (13) and Ella (18), and a chocolate lab puppy named Ruby. In her spare time, Shanon enjoys skiing, car camping, taking Ethan to Karate, and watching Ella compete in swim meets. Shanon completed an MS in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Illinois State University and a BA in Psychology at the University of Kansas—Go Jayhawks!
Please join me in welcoming both Dalila & Shanon to Shoreline Community College.
