Events and News 

Good afternoon, folks – this past week has been filled with Ransomware meetings and planning, but it does feel like we are making some real progress. TSS is now engaged in full recovery mode, with classroom lab setups near completion, allowing them to begin focusing more on additional classroom and staff support. We continue to thank them for all of the great work they have been doing! 

I would also like to thank those who participated in the strategic plan charette this week. There were over 200 in attendance! It is so important for us to hear your vision for how Shoreline will move forward in the future. There are still multiple steps left in the process so please stay tuned for updates. 

This week I was able to participate in a couple of really great events.  The first was put on by the Veteran’s Center. The event was called “Painting Away the Trauma II” and featured the powerful artwork of Veteran and Marine Michael Reagan. Michael’s work is truly inspiring and meeting him and listening to him share his story was very meaningful to me.  His dedication to telling his stories through art is really special.  You can learn more about the event here. Thank you to Derek Levy and the Veterans Team for bringing this to campus.  

The second event I attended was the King County Small Business Development Center grand opening. It was great! City representatives, State Representative Ryu, Shoreline Chamber of Commerce, faculty, staff, and students all gathered to celebrate this center opening shop at Shoreline. This will not only provide a space for small business owners (and those seeking to become ones) to visit, learn, and plan, but it will also provide a great connection to our students and faculty, as well as increase all kinds of innovation. Thank you so much to VP King, Dean Rucks, Business faculty and others for bringing this to campus. This is exactly the kind of partnership we need to replicate! The more we can invite folks to do their work on campus, the more opportunities are available for all of our community. So, bravo! Also, there was cake.  

Finally, I did get a chance to get away for the weekend and visit some of my family in Arizona. My 13-year-old niece unfortunately sprained her ankle, so she was not as mobile as usual. However, that meant I got to see her more – we played Scrabble! I’m pretty sure I lost though we didn’t keep track of the score, though I did come up with a couple interesting words including the word “quark.” Overall, she was a much better player than I was. It’s always great to connect with family when you can, even when they beat you at Scrabble!

Spring Quarter Updates 

• Spring Enrollment is Up! 
• ctcLink down Saturday April 29^th 

• Construction Work Until 5/12 

Accreditation: 

• ALL Area Reviews are now due Friday, June 16, 2023-the last day of spring quarter. The April 24^th deadline for Area Reviews was extended due to the effect of the ransomware incident on this work.  
• Our Fall 2023 (October 5-6) accreditation mid-cycle visit has been approved by the Northwest Commission on Colleges & Universities (NWCCU) to be delayed to spring 2024 due to the ransomware incident. 

ctcLink: 

• ctcLink will be down Saturday, April 29th from 6 am – 8 pm. The SBCTC will be upgrading the ctcLink software (PeopleTools) and users can expect it to look different after the upgrade. More details at this article.   

• FACULTY: The downtime will not impact access to Canvas.  

• FACULTY: Open office hours with ctcLink Faculty Lead, Heather Munsell, have shifted to Mondays 11 am – Noon in Zoom.  
• Reminder: requests to travel via a Travel Authorization (TA) form must be completed prior to your travel. Travel Authorization approvals by supervisors need to be completed in the month they were submitted or will generate an error. The exception is for same-day travel (non-overnight) within King, Snohomish, Pierce, and Thurston counties when you are not seeking reimbursement for meals; no TA is required. 

Year-End Closing in Finance 

Next deadline: Monday, May 1^st by 5:00 p.m. Purchase Requisitions and Personal Services Contracts that require a field order must be created in ctcLink. Allow six to eight weeks for delivery of merchandise, depending on the vendor. The State Administrative and Accounting Manual (SAAM), at subsection 90.20.25.a, provides that “Goods and services must be received by June 30 to be included as an expenditure of the concluding fiscal year.”
