Shoreline Fire Training on Campus June 23-26 & July 5-8

Colleagues,

Please consider this notification that the Shoreline Fire Department and partnering agencies will be on campus for a ‘vehicle over embankment/rollover’ training exercise June 23-26 and July 5-8. There will be no disruption to campus operations, however, it is possible you may observe numerous emergency personnel and apparatus around the Track/Field and in the Greenwood Lot. There will be simulated wounded people being evacuated and triaged during the exercise.

There will be several vehicles flipped on their roof in the Greenwood Lot; please do not call 911.

If you have any questions, please contact me at gcranson@shoreline.edu.

Respectfully,
Gregory Cranson
Acting Director of Safety & Security

Message from President Roberts: Farewell

Dear Colleague,

It is with mixed feelings that I write this letter of farewell as President of Shoreline. It was not an easy decision to make. I have been most fortunate to be associated with Shoreline during a time of historic and rapid change. My time has marked the fulfillment of our blueprint focused on integrating student success, diversity, quality, and sustainability principles across every facet of college life. It was an exciting time to provide leadership as we nurtured our vision of transforming lives and communities through exceptional learning experiences. It has been a remarkable time of learning for me individually and as a member of the college community.

As Annie Dillard said so well, “How you spend each day, is of course, how you live your life.”

Coming to Shoreline allowed me to stretch my professional wings and grow in amazing ways both personally and professionally. It also helped me discern what is important in my life. Having a full life with meaningful work surrounded by the love and warmth of family and friends is important. I believe this decision to retire will result in more balance, wholeness, and health.

As with everything in life, decisions create choices and opportunities. Being a part of this college community has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career. I continue to be humbled by my affiliation with such extraordinary professionals at Shoreline. You are committed to something noble – creating the conditions where students can be successful, as well as building a culture of care and respect. Thank you for the opportunity to share in this most important work.

Thank you for everything you’ve done to support the College’s vision and mission during my time at Shoreline. Your unwavering belief and encouragement of our work will be a lasting memory and one I will always cherish.

As you move forward, I know you will support the Acting President Phillip King, with steadfast support and care during the upcoming academic year!

With deepest gratitude,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.

Message from Dental Hygiene Department: Thank you & New Beginnings

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. -John F. Kennedy

After 51 years of serving the community, the Shoreline Community College Dental Hygiene program is finally saying goodbye to the 2500 Building, which housed great memories that will never be forgotten, and will be proudly and fondly remembered.

To all of us, the 2500 Building had been our professional home where we formed a strong bond and set high goals of providing services to our beautiful community of Shoreline. We helped licensed and skilled dental hygienists, our state’s oral health professionals, graduate from an accredited hygiene program and respectable institution of higher education.

The Shoreline Community College Dental Hygiene Program, with the help of the University of Washington School of Dentistry, will continue to provide our community, students, and colleagues with the same high quality of service that the program upholds from the first day the building opened its doors in 1969.

Like any great team, each department at Shoreline Community College has assisted us in creating the leading Dental Hygiene Program in the state. You all have made the word “work” turn into a great privilege, a chance to know you professionally, and become more of a family than just colleagues. You gave us all a reason to keep coming to our campus despite the disruptions due to COVID-19, because we know that we can depend on YOU for support when needed. Our program remained open despite the risks during the pandemic, all thanks to the collaboration from HOPE Department, Technology Support Services, Safety and Security, Facilities, Financial Services, and Auxiliary Services.

Although we are facing an unprecedented transition and partnering with another highly acclaimed institution, we are moving our program with great anticipation and excitement knowing that more opportunities to provide services in the field of oral care and chances to help students achieve their lifelong goals are waiting for us. Yes, change is not always seen in a good light. However, this change is one of a kind. An adventure of a lifetime.

On behalf of Director Rosie Bellert, Dr. Nikki Honey, Hanna Krupa, Katie Fleming, Lori Simicich, Dr. Patrick Kintner, Carmon Stone, Ashley Castañeda, Aly Barnes, Grace Nelson, and Marie Batalia, I would like to thank you all for your assistance, friendship; and of course, laughter. Working with you has been a true privilege. You all have our respect and gratitude.

Sincerely,

Glenda Toledo O’Malley, Bs.BA., PSC.
