Message from President Roberts: Memorial Day Holiday

Dear Colleague,

Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who have lost their lives in military service. Let us take time to remember and share gratitude for their bravery knowing they made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our freedoms.  

I hope you are able to mark this holiday weekend with time with loved ones, pausing to also give thanks to our fallen heroes.

Temporary Leadership Changes in Humanities and Business, Communication Studies & Social Sciences Divisions

Dear Shoreline faculty & staff:

I am writing to announce temporary changes in the leadership of the Humanities & Transitional Studies division and the Business, Communications, & Social Sciences division.

Nancy Dick, Executive Dean of Humanities & Transitional Studies, is taking leave Monday, May 24 through Tuesday, July 6. During this period, Ann Garnsey-Harter has agreed to fill in as Acting Executive Dean, as well as continue on in her permanent role as Executive Director of Learning Resources and Continuing Education.

The Humanities & Transitional Studies division is in good hands, as Ann has previously served in an acting leadership role for this division. Jonathan Molinaro will support Ann in his current capacity as Associate Dean of Transitional Studies, in addition to executing other functions within the division, as needed. Amy Rovner will provide eLearning support, temporarily as Acting Director of eLearning.

In addition, Acting Executive Dean Tim Wright recently announced his acceptance of a new position as an administrator at Sierra College in California. His last day with Shoreline will be June 4, 2021. Brigid Nulty has agreed to fill in as Acting Executive Dean for BCS beginning June 5, 2021. Brigid will remain in that role until a new Executive Dean for BCS is hired this summer. Brigid’s current role at the College as Acting Associate Dean for BCS will not be filled through this temporary reassignment. We will provide other supports as necessary for Acting Executive Dean Nulty.

I want to send a personal note of appreciation for Tim Wright for all his efforts in his role for Shoreline. Tim led with humor, compassion, and collaboration. We wish him success in his new role.

Notice of Virtual Special Meeting: Friday, May 28, 2021

The Shoreline Community College Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting on Friday, May 28, 2021 beginning at 3:30 PM. The purpose of the May 28 special meeting is to evaluate the qualifications of an applicant for public employment or to review the performance of a public employee; and action: potential appointment of an acting president.

The special meeting will take place in a virtual space to comply with government restrictions on public gathering due to COVID-19 health risks. The May 28, 2021 special meeting will:
1. Commence in open session (“open to the public”); 2. Convene in executive session (“closed to the public”) after the Communication from the Public segment; and 3. Reconvene in open session (“open to the public”) for the action item.

Seeking Volunteers for June 19 Drive-Thru Graduation Celebration

Want to help celebrate our 2021 graduates? Consider volunteering at this year’s Drive-Thru Celebration on Saturday, June 19 from 12:30-4 p.m.! This event will take place outdoors on our campus after the virtual Commencement ceremony concludes.

What will this event entail?

  • Graduating students (and their guests) will drive through a designated route in our campus parking lots, remaining in their cars while they pick up their graduation goodies and pose for photos.
  • We need volunteers who can (safely) cheer them on from the sidelines and help make the event feel festive from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Volunteers can register for shorter timeslots if needed. 
  • All attendees, including volunteers, must wear masks, maintain social distancing at all times, and complete our campus access form upon arrival and departure from campus.

Sign up to volunteer by completing this form by Monday, June 14.
