Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs – Failed Search

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to thank the EVP-ASA Screening Committee members for their time and good work in following the recruitment search process and recommending four finalists for my consideration. After the President, the EVP-ASA is the most senior position at the college. When we looked at recruitment for this position, we changed the title to the Executive Vice President acknowledging its importance.

I would also like to thank the Dean Team and the entire campus community for your interest and involvement in meeting, interviewing, asking excellent questions at the open forums, and providing feedback on the finalists. I carefully considered all available information including your comments and feedback and have determined this to be a “failed search.”

We do have viable options available to us. Unfortunately, Bob Francis is retiring from the Office of Academic and Student Affairs and does not represent one of those options. There are qualified executives available nationally on a shorter term basis. I will consider all options and will bear in mind the importance of selecting the best person to help the College move forward into our new and comprehensive strategic plan. I expect to have further information to share with the campus by the middle of next week.

Thank you for your involvement in our search for this key position and your dedication to our future.

Best regards,
Cheryl
Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
President

The April 7 meeting covers the Middle East: From a proxy war in Yemen to an ongoing civil war in Syria, a number of ongoing conflicts have shaken the traditional alliances in the Middle East to their core. As alliances between state and non-state actors in the region are constantly shifting, the U.S. has found itself between a rock and a hard place. In a series of conflicts that are far from being black-and-white, what can the U.S. do to secure its interests in the region without causing further damage and disruption?

RE: Cap and Gown Order for Faculty, Administrators and Staff
Commencement 2016

DATE: March 10, 2016

Commencement will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium. All faculty, administrators and staff are invited to wear commencement attire. Your participation is encouraged as a tribute to the dedication and achievements of our 2016 graduates.

The deadline for ordering caps and gowns is Friday, April 29th. You can go online to order your commencement wear. Our cap and gown vendor, Herff Jones Cap and Gown, has set up an online ordering system that is very easy to complete for PC users, and somewhat slower for Mac users. The Herff Jones web site address is:

http://extranet.herffjones.com/capgown/order/?fuseaction=auth.&CFID=5755125&CFTOKEN=83667225.

All Users: Customer number (46000591000) and the order number (3707646).

Your order must be submitted no later than Friday, April 29th. The College covers all rental expenses for regalia ordered and returned by the established deadlines, but not thereafter.

If you ordered during the past year:
Scroll down to your name under “Faculty Name” to verify or edit your size and degree information. (NOTE: Support staff and administrators are also listed under “Faculty Name”).

If no changes are necessary, click on “Finished.”

For first-time orders:
Anticipate a short system delay to place your order; there may be a delay from the time you select “New Faculty Member” and click “Continue.”

Please be sure to click “Confirm” when you’ve completed and verified your order.

You may also order through Lisa Smith in the Student Leadership Center via email at lsmi@shoreline.edu.  We do encourage you, however, to try the online order system first.

Please mark your calendar to pick up your commencement wear between May 31 and June 3rd, but no later than Friday, June 3rd by 3 p.m., in the Student Leadership Center, PUB 3rd floor. After that time, you may pick it up on the day of Commencement at the Issue Room in the lower level of the gymnasium, between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

After the commencement ceremony, we encourage you to wear your regalia to the reception for pictures with students. It is imperative that all caps, gowns and hoods be returned on Sunday, June 5, at the conclusion of the ceremony at the drop off area in the PUB, room 9202. We must ship the commencement wear the following day in order to avoid late charges.

Please contact Lisa Smith at (206) 546-5862 or lsmi@shoreline.edu if you have any questions or concerns.
