International Education Updates

As some of you may know we’ve experienced a recent resignation in International Education (IE), as Rylan Good has made an important decision to relocate back to Pennsylvania to be closer to his family. As many of you are aware the Executive Team (ET) has made a commitment to evaluate refilling of positions on a case-by-case basis to minimize the disruption of College operations as much as possible. However, during these extremely turbulent times for international student enrollment around the country, having a fully resourced IE team will make a huge difference in our ability to stabilize our enrollment. More importantly, this refill will ensure a consistent presence for international student recruitment. With this in mind, ET has approved filling this upcoming vacancy on a temporary one-year basis. Andrew Hull has accepted the position of Associate Director of International Education Marketing and Outreach and will be starting in early August.

As a result of this IE staffing change, we were also able to adjust some of the staffing and reporting in their area. Lisa Maroni will now be a Senior Associate Director and manage staff. Lisa’s position change is now parallel to Bo Fu and he will also now manage staff. All of the above changes have resulted in a cost neutral outcome (with a little savings).

Please ensure we welcome Andrew, congratulate Lisa and Bo, and say goodbye and good luck to Rylan.

Message from President Roberts: Personnel update for Employee Engagement, Equity & Organizational Development

Dear Colleague,

Dr. Gloria Ngezaho, Executive Director of Employee Engagement, Equity, and Organizational Development, has shared his decision to resign from his position, effective May 20, 2019.

Dr. Ngezaho shared, “Although this was not an easy decision to make, I am grateful for the professional opportunities and the honor to have briefly shared this journey with the campus community in which we achieved some great things. Throughout it all, I have learned so much, and have been enriched by the connections and relationships I made in the past year. And for that, I am grateful to each and every one of you.”

Dr. Ngezaho joined the College a year ago to assume responsibilities for this new area. Dr. Ngezaho, along with Pilar Corder, Executive Assistant – Office of Employee Engagement, Equity, and Organizational Development, have worked collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators across campus to establish our New Employee Orientation (NEO); offered diversity, equity and access trainings, implemented a manager’s checklist to support new employees; facilitated Courageous Conversations with the Executive Team (ET) and individual employee groups; and collaboratively organized the second annual Day of Learning.

President Cheryl Roberts thanked Dr. Ngezaho for his service to the College, saying, “I am grateful for your work to help us make great strides in living into our values of respect, inclusion, and student engagement.”

President Roberts is working with Executive Assistant Pilar Corder to reach out to key interest holders in this work: the Faculty Senate and SCCFT leadership, Brigid Nulty, Associate Dean of Teaching, Learning & Assessment, the MCORE faculty, and the Inclusive Excellence Steering Committee to develop a transition plan for this important work at the College.

Message from President Roberts: Update re: Alison Stevens’ return date

Dear Colleague,

We’ve received an update regarding Dr. Alison Stevens’ anticipated return date, which has been extended to Monday, May 13, 2019.

Please note the temporary leadership structure put in place will also be extended for this period of time, with Dr. Bayta Maring continuing to serve as the Acting Vice President for Student Learning during Dr. Stevens’ absence.

I am grateful for those who assumed additional responsibilities during the past quarter and for their willingness to continue in their roles. I am also thankful for everyone’s flexibility and understanding as we continue to be responsive to your and our students’ needs.

Gratefully,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.

President
