Help Make a Commencement Video for Our Grads: Submit a Clip by May 28

Hello!

As we near closer to Commencement on June 19, the Commencement Committee will send out several invitations to you to participate in different aspects of either our virtual ceremony or drive-thru celebration.

Today’s invitation is to either record a brief (30 seconds or less) video to graduates or encourage a fellow faculty/staff member to do so. These messages can include words of wisdom, advice, or well-wishing. Our fantastic Rob Berg will then compile your submissions into a short and sweet video featured in our virtual ceremony. (If you’d like a frame of reference or some inspiration, we encourage you to view this message to students which was crafted last May.)

If this sounds right up your alley, please read the following instructions carefully, and submit your video by Friday, May 28th

  • Using your phone or laptop, record your brief message to students. Frame your face so there is what appears to be 1” of space between the top of your head and the border of the frame. Face your light source, so that you are brighter than your background. Please take steps to reduce background noise. Don’t worry about editing out flubs or restarts, Rob can do that quickly.

Please submit all videos via DropBox (note: an earlier version of this email included a different method of submission. Please disregard that). You can email me at amitu@shoreline.edu with any questions. We appreciate you and your enduring support of all students on our campus!

Warmly,

Alexander Mitu

Clarification Regarding Updated Mask-Wearing Guidance

Dear Colleague,

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the State of Washington recently shared updated guidance regarding fully vaccinated individuals not being required to wear masks in most indoor or outdoor spaces. I would like to clarify that this guidance does not apply to colleges and universities, which follow the requirements of the Higher Education Re-Opening Plan

Shoreline Community College will continue to follow the appropriate guidance for higher education, which at this time, includes mask wearing and six-foot distancing for any in-person activities. The approval process to come to campus remains in place, along with the use of the Campus Access Form. Should this guidance be updated at any point, we will share more information with the campus community.

For more information about our COVID-19 protocols, please visit www.shoreline.edu/COVID19.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.

Message from President Roberts: Statement on My Retirement Timeline

Dear Colleague,

For personal reasons, I was open to moving my retirement date to the end of this academic year. The Board of Trustees took action on my contract at their May 4th meeting to set an end date of June 30, 2021. I greatly appreciate everything the Board has done for the College and me, and I especially appreciate Board Chair D’Ambrosio’s kind words for me at the meeting.

My focus before I retire this summer is on preparing for a successful transition of leadership and ensuring the College is poised to continue the work of serving our diverse students. Shoreline is a special place and it’s been an honor to be a part of this community and to serve as president for the past six years.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.

How to Access Faster Wi-Fi on Campus

If you are approved to work on campus and sometimes experience slow Wi-Fi, it could be that you are connected to the wrong network. Some employees are connecting to “SCC Event,” which is not optimized for use by campus students and employees.

For best results, change your Wi-Fi connection on your devices to use “SCC Staff.” This will require entering your Shoreline email address and password and will provide the fastest, most secure connection.

If you need assistance determining whether you are connected to the wrong Wi-Fi network or changing your connection, please email tss@shoreline.edu.

Student AFA Graduation Virtual Exhibition

The current graduates of Shoreline’s Fine Arts program exhibit the finest samples of their work in painting, drawing, design, ceramics, photography, and sculpture. The Shoreline Community College Art Gallery is proud to present this group exhibition of up-and-coming artists to the greater Seattle arts community.

View the virtual exhibit.

The artwork in this virtual exhibition represents the culmination of two years of hard work and creativity. It is inspiring to see the quality and integrity of their work and to know that our students have developed conceptual and technical skills that will help them realize their goals.

Many of the students represented in this show have completed the requirements for an Associate of Fine Arts degree, a two-year program of study and creative development in the visual arts. Shoreline has two AFA degree tracks, one in Studio Arts and one in Photography.

We wish our students all the best in the next chapter of their journey and hope you enjoy seeing their most recent scholarly and artistic accomplishments.
