Message from President Roberts: Update on temporary appointment for the VP of Business & Administrative Services position

Dear Campus Community,

My sincerest appreciation to all involved with the process over the course of the past few weeks related to the temporary appointment for Vice President for Business & Administrative Services (VP-B&AS) position. Unfortunately, we were not able to make a successful hire for this position.

We will continue to look at options for filling the VP-B&AS position going forward and will keep the campus apprised.

Gratefully,
Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
President

Message from Facilities Director Jason Francois: Spraying of Hornet’s Nest – Mon, August 19, 2019; AM

Dear Colleague,

As summer progresses, the hotter and drier weather has begun to affect the behavior of some of our more aggressive hornets.

Unfortunately, there is a particularly threatening nest in the landscaping around the 2300 building. We have not identified the exact location of the nest because the area was vacated after the nest was riled. Our Grounds crew will identify and mark this area the morning of Friday, August 16.

The plan is for the nest to be sprayed the early morning of Monday, August 19. While the spraying of nests is not our preferred option at any time, this nest poses a hazard.

The product that will be used on the nest is called Spectracide PRO. Information about it can be found at this link or on this pdf.

If you would like an alternate work location or other accommodations on August 19, please contact Human Resources at (206) 546-5880.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
Jason Francois

Message from Facilities Director Jason Francois: East Road Work on Wed, Aug 14 & Thurs, Aug 15

Dear Colleague,

Seattle City Light has confirmed that the permanent power connection made to our residence hall last week is performing as expected.

The next step is to backfill the excavation made in the road near the East Gate and patch (pave) the road. The current plan is to backfill on Wednesday, August 14 and to pave on Thursday, August 15.

While the work is progressing, the east road will be closed between the East Gate and the loading dock in the 9000 building (the “PUB”). Deliveries and traffic can still access the area by looping around campus, past the dog park, and the 2100 building. Hours of work are expected to be from 7:00 am to noon each day (August 14 and 15).

During the asphalt patching/paving on Thursday, August 15, we will have a situation similar to the patching done on the east road in June. We are not expecting significant odor or volume. However, if you pass close by the area, you will likely experience fumes. This is the type of work done on roadways all over the region, only much smaller in scope.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
Jason Francois

New campus bookstore vendor coming Fall 2019

The College is pleased to announce it has engaged the nationally recognized Follett Corporation to be the new campus bookstore vendor beginning Fall 2019.

Shoreline will join many other colleges and universities, including Lake Washington Technical College and Renton Technical College, in utilizing Follett to better support campus bookstore and textbook needs and align the College with a better profit model. The new partnership has been reviewed with both our faculty and classified unions and will allow our Bookstore to utilize resources in the best manner possible while ensuring existing Bookstore staff will continue as employees of the College.

Our contract with University Bookstore will end in early September, and the Bookstore will close between September 9-13 to transition vendors. College staff are working closely with Follett to coordinate a September 16 grand reopening.

Faculty book orders for Fall quarter will continue to be filled by University Bookstore. During Opening Week, Follett will offer information sessions for faculty about how to place book orders for Winter quarter 2020.

Additional details and benefits about this partnership (including a forthcoming e-commerce platform) will be shared with the campus in the coming weeks.
