Campus Updates- All Staff (01/20/22)

Hi Campus Community,

Here are this week’s updates!

RETURN TO CAMPUS/COVID-19

  • Classes: winter 2022 classes continue as planned: in-person, hybrid, and online.
  • Vaccinations:
  • 92% of in-person students have attested to their vaccination status or have claimed an eligible exemption for winter quarter.
  • You now can get Pfizer and Moderna vaccine boosters 5 months (instead of 6 months) after completing the original vaccine series. Children ages 12 and up are now recommended to receive a booster as well.  See CDC statements on Pfizer and on Moderna. Boosters are available at the vaccine clinic in the Quiet Dining Room in the PUB. Walk-ins are welcome if you tell them you are a Shoreline Community College employee.
  • Cases: Executive Team (ET) is closely monitoring the changing conditions of the pandemic, including the number of COVID-19 exposure reports submitted daily by students, staff, and faculty. Reported positive cases remain very low. Here are the numbers since the first day of winter quarter (January 10):
  • Student positive cases: 26, which is 0.5% of total winter students.
  • Employee positive cases: 12, which is 1.7% of total college employees.

While Omicron has a significantly higher transmission rate, it typically is showing to have less severe symptoms in vaccinated individuals than other variants, and for a shorter period of time.

  • Masks:
  • KN-95 masks have been distributed to front-line staff and to faculty who are teaching in-person.
  • Buy from a trusted source. Project N95 vets mask distributors. Armbrust USA, is a company that makes and sells medical-grade masks made in the U.S.A. by various manufacturers.
  • PCC: the Parent Child Center has reopened.
  • Curbside Drop-off/Pick-up: contactless drop-off/pick-up service continues Monday-Wednesday 10am-3 pm in room 2905, but closes permanently on January 27th. Laptop pick-up and return is available through the Library (4000 Building) Monday-Thursday, 8am-5pm.
  • Have questions? Email covidsupervisor@shoreline.edu or call 206-495-7744 during regular College operating hours.
  • Check the COVID-19 Updates site for the latest information.

Campus Updates- All Staff (01/05/22)

Hi Campus Community,

Here are this week’s updates!

RETURN TO CAMPUS/COVID-19

  • Winter 2022 classes are in-person, hybrid, and online and will begin as planned on Monday, January 10, 2022.
  • All services are now available on campus.  Classified staff, as well as admin exempt staff, are required to work on campus a minimum of 3 days/week. Welcome back to those staff who have been working remotely since the beginning of the pandemic!
  • New in-person or on-campus students are required to attest to their vaccination status or claim a valid medical or religious exemption by January 20, 2022, to avoid getting a hold put on their registration account. All new employees are required to verify their vaccination status or attest to an eligible exemption.
  • All students, employees, and visitors must wear face masks indoors on campus, regardless of vaccination status. Wearing a well-fitting and high-quality mask is as important as ever with Omicron; please review King County’s Department of Health blog for tips on masking. If you or a student forget your mask, they are available at ASK ME stations and meet CDC guidelines
  • Continue diligence with hand hygiene. For classified staff who are newly back working on campus, hand sanitizer has been distributed to your office area.
  • Disinfecting wipes and dispensers are being distributed to computer and piano labs so users can clean keyboards (not computer screens), as they would like.  In addition, employees are welcome to request wipes be distributed to their individual offices by submitting a Facilities work order. This effort is in response to requests, but also remember that per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the risk of getting infected by COVID-19 from contact with surfaces or objects is generally considered to be low.

If you are otherwise healthy with mild symptoms and cannot find testing availability, you should presume that you have COVID-19 and self-isolate according to current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines

  • The vaccine clinic started back up on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, and is now in the Quiet Dining Room in the PUB. Walk-ins are available for boosters for ages 16 and older.  Boosters for ages 12-15 are not available at this time.
  • We are closely monitoring the changing conditions of the pandemic and continue to discuss the latest information at the Communicable Disease Team (CDT) and Executive Team (ET).
  • See the COVID-19 Updates site for more information. Questions? Email covidsupervisor@shoreline.edu or call 206-495-7744 during regular College business hours.
