Campus Updates 02/16/23
EVENTS AND NEWS
Hi folks- hope all are well! First, I wanted to thank the 30 or so folks who provided feedback on the outcomes I am proposing for my goals to the Board of Trustees. I will be sending that document to campus indicating (a) changes I made as a function of your feedback and (b) rationale for those items I didn’t adopt. Keep an eye out for it!
I had great community meetings this past week. One was with the parent advisory for the Parent-Child Center. It was a great conversation- the advocacy from our parents is so wonderful. I’m so glad we have this space to discuss improvements to our center. Our new director Kathleen Keefe is doing a great job by the way. Please reach out to her and say hello!
A few of my other meetings included meeting with Rabbi Sadya Davidoff from Chabad of Shoreline and Eric Murray, President of Cascadia College. I was also in attendance for numerous meetings with our trustees and other college presidents/trustees in Washington D.C. to advocate for legislation that supports students, staff, and faculty. I am excited about the possibilities and will continue to work in this space to have an impact at the level that our systems need.
Finally, if you are reading this on Thursday—the Buffalo Soldier event is TODAY. The event will showcase the film, Buffalo Soldiers: Fighting on two fronts” and will start with fun appetizers at 6, film at 7, and a panel with the director, actors, film faculty, d community members. It’s FREE and one of the ways we plan to honor and celebrate Black History Month. Hope to see you there!!
Hope to see you in a zoom, community connection, etc. It’s been a long week but a good one!
Cheers,
Jack

Lady Phin’s looking to return to NWAC Championship Playoffs this season.
After making its first Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) playoff appearance in over 20 years, women’s basketball is eager to improve on last season’s results. With most of last year’s starting five back, the Lady Dolphins are hoping for an even better season this year. Heading up the roster is dominant floor general Aloha Akaka, utility forwards Gracing Browning and Katelyn Altaha, and Symone Pease posting up in the paint. In addition, injured last year, Leiah Naeata returns, adding tremendous depth to the offense. Rounding out the Dolphins are newcomers Taylor Eldridge, Moemannogi Notoa, Mahrysa Thomas, Nevaeh Williams, Maddi Lee, and Trista Dammal. Following their win over Bellevue College on Saturday, the Lady Dolphins lead the Northern Region.
