EVENTS AND NEWS  

Good afternoon all, 

I can’t believe the week has just flown by.  It’s been a busy one here for sure with a lot going on- I imagine it is the same for you.  I am very much looking forward to meeting our colleagues from the NWCCU Accreditation team tomorrow and discussing all the progress we have made on our accreditation recommendations.   A HUGE thank you to the faculty, staff, and admin teams who have spent countless hours making much progress on our learning outcomes assessment and academic planning processes.  These initial steps help set the stage for our next steps in planning and tying everything we do to data, DEI, and the mission.  Looking forward to all of that movement into the future.  More updates soon! 

At the end of last week, I attended the WACTC meeting virtually and heard updates from the state board and presidents across the state.  It was a very informative meeting.  It is always great to hear how other colleges are handling different issues and also to make new connections.  Speaking of which, I will be meeting with the president of Cascadia this week just to connect and share ideas.  I am looking forward to getting to know President Murray and learning about his experiences in the region.   

This weekend I came to the campus theater to help introduce Councilperson Chris Roberts who introduced the film Promised Land to an audience of community members and students.  The film is a documentary about the Duwamish and Chinook struggle toward Federal recognition.  It was powerful.  Councilmember Roberts shared his own experiences as a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and his support for our local communities.  The panel following was also very moving.  It was great to connect with panel members afterward to discuss other ways the college may connect in the future. 

I also stopped by the 6×6 Northwest event.  It was PACKED! It was great seeing all the people and children there waiting to see if anyone was interested in buying their art. It was awesome to see so many people come out for it. I did see Shoreline folks in attendance as well.  

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended virtually or in-person to our first community check-in event. Even at 8 am, we had an impressive showing!! I really appreciate the candor and honesty with which folks brought up concerns as well as the willingness to be silly and have some fun (and coffee of course). I will be following up on a couple concerns that were brought up and report updates to campus.

• For the week of October 5 through October 11, Shoreline saw 5 cases of Covid reported. This is down 5 from last week’s count of 10. 
• A reminder: if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or test positive, please submit a report! Coronavirus (COVID-19) Exposure Report Form – Formstack

• As we approach flu season, the CDC recommends that everyone get a flu shot as well. And yes, you can get your flu shot and your COVID booster at the same time.
