Greetings!

In the interest of being prepared for the unexpected, please review the
annual Suspended Operations Memo for 2015-2016 from President Roberts as we are approaching the season of inclement weather and consistent with our ongoing emergency preparedness. This memo will also be posted on our HR website for your reference.

Please direct any questions about this information to your supervisor or Human Resources staff.

New online facilities work order request system

The new online Facilities Work Order Request System is now being launched. We are excited for you to start using this new tool, which will better serve our customers.

If you are an authorized submitter, you can start using it right away. You can easily access it by going to the Shoreline Community College Intranet Home Page and clicking Facilities/Capital Projects.

As a first step, please read through all of the information we have provided on the Facilities/Capital Projects home page link, including the tutorial, authorized submitters list, and key tips. We hope this information will make it easy for you to use our Facilities Work Order Request System.

Remember, the only real difference in how you will send future facilities work order requests is it will be done online vs. using the Facilities Work Request form, which will no longer be used. While the online system still requires a work order request review by the person with supervisory responsibility, a signature is no longer required. We trust that the authorized submitters will continue to make sure work order requests are approved before submitting them.

Also, please remember to continue using the Facilities Set-up Request form for event setups – that has not changed. However, after reviewing all of the information provided, please don’t hesitate to contact Sherri Walley at swalley@shoreline.edu or x4661 or Bob Roehl at  BRoehl@shoreline.edu with any questions you may have.

GAC Presents: Dental Hygiene and Nursing Service-Learning in Bolivia, Tues., Nov. 24

global eyes
Join the GAC on Tues., Nov. 24 in the PUB 9208 from 10:30-11:20 a.m. for a presentation on “Dental Hygiene and Nursing Service Learning in Bolivia.”

Working with the Smiles Forever Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Seattle, a group of Nursing and Dental Hygiene students from Shoreline Community College had the chance of a lifetime to see firsthand how simple healthcare practices can make a difference in impoverished communities.

Led by Shoreline faculty members Katie Fleming and Lisa Libassi, this two-week program enabled students to explore medical issues and disease treatment in an environment with limited equipment. They visited the first and only dental hygiene school in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Nursing students had numerous opportunities to work in hospital and clinic settings, as well as in public health facilities and to conduct medical screening health fairs.

Join us on November 24 when Katie and Lisa will discuss how this experience gave their students a broader understanding of diverse cultures and complex health and political issues. For more information about Katie Fleming and Lisa Libassi, visit our biographies page.

Transgender Day of Remembrance Installation in the PUB Lobby

TDOR+BLM
Project Pride and the SLC hosted two events this week in honor of Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance. If you were unable to attend the first event, a silent honoring of lives lost to anti-Transgender violence held Nov. 18, you can find photos here. If you missed the memorial event held Fri., Nov. 20, you can view the photos here. The installation that was erected in the PUB lobby in honor of #BlackLivesMatter and #TDOR will be on display until the end of Fall quarter. If you were unable to attend either Transgender Day of Remembrance event, please take the time to stop by the lobby and view the installation, which is a moving portrayal of the violence faced by this marginalized community.
