EVENTS AND NEWS
Message from the President:
I hope this week has been a good one for you so far. Last week I had the opportunity to begin one of my professional development opportunities. I can’t recall if I shared this or not, but as one way to help me with learning this year, I am meeting monthly with (1) former and (1) current Washington state president to ask questions and get additional support. Last Friday, I was able to meet with Dr. Amit Singh from Edmonds College. Dr. Singh has been the president at Edmonds for four years and has been president at several institutions across the country. It was great to meet with him and it is even better to have him as a mentor!
This week the executive team (ET) and I will be spending a day and a half in our annual retreat. The emphasis has been informed by the Board of Trustees’ DRAFT goals that I mentioned in a previous week’s update. Our goal for the next couple of days is to really think through how to continue trust building, improving communication, and involving our community in shared planful practices as we move forward. I am eager to have these conversations and we will be conferring with you soon to move ideas and best practices forward. Restoring trust and camaraderie is our number one goal.
One thing you may notice in the next few weeks is the use of multiple languages in some of our communications. After doing some research we have determined that besides English, Spanish, Amharic, and Chinese (Simplified) are the three most common languages spoken here and in the broader Shoreline community. This quarter we will be starting with Spanish.
Here is a link to my next set of virtual office hours!
Have a great week!
