EVENTS AND NEWS
Good afternoon folks,
At the tail end of last week, I was able to meet with Bristol Ellington, the new City Manager of Shoreline. We took him on a tour and introduced Mr. Ellington to various programs on campus. I also introduced him to Melanie Dixon, and we discussed setting up a regular structure between the City of Shoreline and SCC to identify tangible projects to demonstrate the city & SCC’s commitment to furthering DEI work in the area. Very exciting! We will be establishing that structure in the next few weeks- more to come!
This week has been very busy with much of it happening in Olympia, Washington. Trustees Chan, Lux, and I went to the hill and met with Senator Salomon, Representative Davis, Representative Stanford’s staff member, Representative Ryu, & Representative Kloba to discuss the legislative priorities of our system with the #1 priority being advocating for faculty and staff compensation to be fully funded by the state. There was a lot of support, and we hope to see the COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) enacted and funded by the state. Advocacy will continue as our staff and faculty are very much in need of this compensation increase.
Have a great rest of your week!
Best,
Jack
