New Waves of Gratitude posts

• A wave of gratitude from Kyle Winslow to the Faculty moving courses online!
I would like to express a special thank you all faculty who moved their face to face or hybrid courses online for spring quarter 2020. This heavy-lift by faculty for student engagement and success has been amazing. I want to applaud every one of you who took the time to create videos to help students learn your respective subjects. I spent 6 hours creating a video in Zoom to send to Business students as part of our group advising session called The Big Event. I created a PowerPoint that discussed Business AAAS articulations with four-year institutions. It took me five “takes” to get the video even remotely ready to share with students. The final product had countless “ums” and “sos”. I can’t imagine doing this several times per week for three to four courses. The students are lucky to have you and I am proud of all faculty, especially the faculty in Business and Physical Education who showed care beyond measure for their student’s success.

• A wave of gratitude from Susie Schroeder to Rachel Evans!

Rachel is always quick to help me with copyediting and proofreading on emails that go out to prospective and current students. On top of that, her creative wordsmithing makes communications more readable and fun. She’s great to work with!

• A wave of gratitude from Bonnie Madison to Gavin Smith!

I want to give a very big shout out to Gavin Smith, Acting Director of Technology Support Services.

Gavin has provided outstanding leadership to the TSS team and has given the guidance needed in order to provide the coordination and management of many requirements to ensure that the students, faculty, staff and administrative have the technology necessities for their new work environments.

He has made sure that his team is provided with all updates that have been directed by the college administration in order to ensure a smooth transition to remote support of Shoreline Community College students, faculty and staff.

Thank you, boss.
From Your Favorite Human,
Bonnie L. Madison

Positive comments from our Shoreline Students:
-Comments gathered from a survey from e-Learning.

Question: “Knowing that we all will be learning online for the Spring quarter, and that this is not everyone’s first choice, what can you control as an online student? Is there anything Shoreline can do to make online learning more effective for you? If so, what?”

· Although online learning for a science class is not my first choice, I am happy that I have a bit more flexibility with it all being online. I also am happy that I can use my travel time as study time. I’m happy that there is a week of online training. I’ve seen other folks who’s quarters started this week and there is no training for how to use the online platform for students. Although the current circumstances may not be ideal for most students at Shoreline, I am able to control things such as my attitude, time-management, effort, and my other daily habits to help optimize my success when doing online learning. Understanding that I can’t get upset at the circumstances is important as dwelling on it could cause me to get unmotivated or affect my mental health. Repeatedly finishing assignments well before due dates should help to keep my motivation levels high as I complete this quarter.

· I feel shoreline has made great efforts to provide students the best possible learning experience with the current restrictions. There isn’t much more I could ask from all the staff of the school.

· I really believe that Shoreline CC is already doing its part and I liked so much of attention with students. Sending emails, explaining all forms of understanding – whether verbal, visual, or sound, creating videos, giving feedback, and giving support if you have any questions.

· As an online student I can be self-disciplined to get my school work done in the time allowed. I think Shoreline is doing great with its ability to move online and continue classes; I hope the Teachers are doing ok.

As a Shoreline student, I can control time management. I can work through online courses on my own time and take breaks when I need. I think Shoreline is doing a wonderful job with the transition of operating fully online.

Budget Proposal Survey expanded

Dear Colleague,

Based on feedback received at today’s Zoom Hall Budget Meeting about the limitations of the current Budget Proposal Survey, we wanted to provide you with a way to submit additional input, should you desire to do so.

The survey was originally set up for each respondent to complete it one single time, with the option to enter up to three budget proposals/ideas. We have now updated the survey to be able to be taken multiple times.

If you have more than three budget proposals to share, you can enter the first three, submit the survey, and then start the survey over to enter additional proposals. All submissions are anonymous will be collected and reviewed once the survey closes on May 31st.

We welcome all ideas, large and small, as we undertake this monumental task as a College. Thank you for your willingness to contribute your feedback during this particularly challenging time.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.

President
