January Pause in On-Campus Attendance

Dear Colleague,

As the Governor extends current statewide COVID-19 restrictions, the College will observe a two-week pause on any in-person attendance at the start of winter quarter (in addition to following our 14-day out-of-state travel quarantine procedure), to help reduce the spread of the virus in our local community.

This means students and employees who are authorized to come to campus for limited in-person activities will instead learn and work from home January 4-18, 2021.

Anyone who is an exception to this rule will be individually notified, and students living on campus will continue to follow distancing protocols in the residence hall. Our contactless curbside pick-up/drop-off service will continue at the start of winter quarter for equipment and materials.

The College is fortunate to have had few reported positive cases of COVID-19 on campus. Please remember to use the confidential COVID-19 Exposure Form if you need to report any possible exposure. If we know a student or employee who has been on campus tests positive, we follow a contact tracing protocol to assess and notify individuals regarding potential exposure risk.

As fall quarter comes to a close, I hope you will consider the many creative and joyous ways to celebrate the winter holidays safely. It will take all of us to help reduce the transmission of the COVID-19 virus in our communities. Please continue to observe guidance about wearing masks, practicing frequent handwashing, and minimizing travel or in-person contact with anyone outside of your household.

With best wishes for a healthy and happy holiday season,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
President

Waves of Gratitude

Waves of Gratitude for Amy Kinsel for inclusive excellence. The curriculum Amy has put together to ensure SCC becomes an inclusive, equitable, forward thinking campus is invaluable and will stand the test of time. I appreciate her efforts greatly! David Isaac

Waves of Gratitude to Amy Rovner for inclusive excellence. Thank you, Amy, for helping with the alternative proctoring solution for students who have accessibility issues. The process involves so many pieces but you are so good at everything! And the step-by-step info sheets you have worked on from scratch are going to be very helpful. This can’t be done without your help! Linda Du

Waves of Gratitude for Brandon Fryman for inclusive excellence, respect, and community engagement. Brandon put together a great set of informational posts and tips for DAAG and a wonderful webinar in Regular and Substantive Interaction for faculty. Anonymous

Waves of Gratitude for Zoe Swanson. Zoe is incredible. She is always very responsive and so knowledgeable about financial aid. She just stepped into her new role liaising with Financial Aid and Workforce. Every time I have a question about a students’ Financial Aid status, she kindly looks into the situation and effectively tells me what this student needs to do with financial aid. I am grateful to have a team member like her! Jenna Durney Schlein

Waves of Gratitude to Stephanie Baker for inclusive excellence, respect and student engagement. Stephanie is a rock star! She is juggling her new Assistant Registrar duties with her ctcLink ones with grace. I don’t know how she does it but she is always positive, enthusiastic and caring. She looks out for what will help our students succeed. Anonymous

WEBINAR: New Rich Content Editor in Canvas

Hello Faculty,

On December 16, 2020, we will be rolling out the New Rich Content Editor in Canvas. The New Rich Content Editor enhances the content creation experience in Canvas. It will be a bit of an adjustment for all of us but we think you will love it once you have used it.

We will be offering a live training on the new features Monday, December 7th at 1:30 pm. This Webinar is via Zoom, please check the eLearning Resources for Faculty announcement for the Zoom room link. We hope you can join us.

The following enhancements are included with this feature update:

  • The Rich Content Editor expands to the full width of the browser and can also be expanded into full-screen mode
  • The toolbar includes a condensed, more intuitive look
  • Toolbar menus are grouped by common icons and interactions
  • The content sidebar only displays when linking to other parts of Canvas, accessing Canvas files, or accessing uploaded media
  • Image and media additions include drag and drop; images include an Unsplash search and content auto-scaling
  • When content in a browser window is long enough to require a scroll bar, the Rich Content Editor menu bar is fixed at the top of the browser window. Users can scroll the length of the browser page and manage content in the Rich Content Editor without having to scroll back up the page to access the menu.
  • The Keyboard shortcut, Accessibility Checker, and HTML Editor icons have moved to the bottom of the editor next to the word count. Additionally, the Rich Content Editor window can be resized using the Move handle below the window, and the window can be expanded to full screen.

We will be recording the training and posting in the eLearning Resources for Faculty Canvas course.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at eLearning@shoreline.edu.
