Apply & Aid web page changes to launch this Saturday

Due to logistical reasons, Communications & Marketing will launch the anticipated Apply & Aid web page updates this Saturday, August 8 at midnight, rather than at the same time as the home page changes next week.

On August 8, some pages within the Apply & Aid section of the site may not be available on our website for approximately 5-10 minutes while they are being launched. All changes should be finalized and accurately reflected on the site by 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

What will be affected: Pages that live on www.shoreline.edu under the menu tab labeled Apply & Aid.

What will not be affected: The class schedule, registration portal, or any other transactional service pages that require a student login.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Apply & Aid web project, you can review the project summary and outline of the changes by visiting the summary article.

If you have questions about the changes or find any issues once the changes are made, please contact websupport@shoreline.edu. We will be monitoring the site very closely throughout Sunday and early Monday morning for any potential issues that may arise. Thank you!

Zoom Hall (“Virtual Campus Meeting”): Wednesday, August 12, 2020; 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Dear Colleague,

Please join the Executive Team (ET) and me for a Zoom Hall on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. We want to provide a brief update on the budget and process fall quarter; the Washington State COVID-19 Higher Education Reopening Plan and how it aligns with our fall opening; a preview of Fall Convocation and Opening Week, followed by questions and answers (Q&A).

We received inquiries about asking questions “live” during the Zoom Hall’s Q&A segment. If you prefer to ask your question verbally during the Q&A segment of the August 12th Zoom Hall, please send an email to Lori Yonemitsu at lyonemitsu@shoreline.edu no later than 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 12 with the subject line: Request to ask question verbally – August 12, 2020 Zoom Hall. (This will assist Randy Gottfried, our meeting facilitator, tremendously.)

We also received inquiries about how one can submit a question anonymously during the Q&A segment of our Zoom Hall. Randy Gottfried will share how to do this right before we commence with the Q&A segment of the August 12th Zoom Hall.

New website home page and site navigation coming August 11

Illustration of a megaphone and confetti with the words "Coming Soon."Get ready for some major updates to the College website!

On August 11, in addition to major changes to the Apply & Aid pages on our website, Communications & Marketing will be launching a fully redesigned home page and refined site-wide navigation for our primary website, www.shoreline.edu.

We’ll provide more information about the research and the process in the near future, but for now, here are some key features and highlights:

  • User-Centered and Research-Based Changes: Over 200 participants, including current and prospective students, faculty and staff, were involved in our web research studies.
  • Improved Accessibility: Based on our accessibility audit conducted in fall 2019, improvements were made to bring our site up to WCAG 2.1 requirements, ensuring all who come to our site are able to access the information they need.
  • Intuitive Navigation: Refined navigation based on data and user testing, including a revamped main menu, header, footer, and a search button that reveals the search bar along with links to the most commonly searched terms.
  • Adaptable and Agile: The back-end of the home page was redeveloped so that we can more easily make incremental improvements to the website as needed.
  • Dynamic Content: Features such as dynamic news feeds were created so that we can distribute our news blog content to the home page and throughout the site more easily.
  • Modern Design and Brand Alignment: New design elements and “snippets” were developed that allow us to distinguish our site from other colleges while reinforcing our brand identity and adding depth and energy to the site.

This project comes at a critical time to help support enrollment and retention efforts, especially while the College is operating remotely. While some changes may feel new or different for employees, it’s designed for prospective and current students to be able to find the information they need to navigate the College much more easily and intuitively. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we launch these updates!

New Waves of Gratitude submissions

A Wave of Gratitude to Randy Gottfried from Mary Burroughs for community engagement:

“Ocean waves of gratitude to Randy for making nursing graduation flawless and special on Zoom! He is the ultimate professional and techno-expert. Randy always goes above and beyond!”

A Wave of Gratitude to Pilar Codar from Amy Rovner for Inclusive Excellence and Respect Community Engagement and Other:

“Her overall enthusiasm, positive attitude, friendliness and overall awesomeness! Pilar has done a fantastic job creating employee engagement activities that are interesting, fun and uplifting. Since our move to remote work, she has continued to come up with great ideas to keep us feeling like we belong to a community! THANK YOU PILAR for all of your work for Shoreline! We will miss you!!!”

A Wave of Gratitude for Pilar Codar from Laura Drake for Inclusive Excellence and Respect, Community Engagement and Other:

Approachability, expertise, follow-through, creativity, and all-around outstanding leadership. “Ever since I first reached out to her with a question about New Employee Orientation (shout out to NEO Cohort 6), Pilar has been the best! She is a brilliant problem-solver, with the ability to share ideas and explain new concepts using crystal clarity. When we all had to shift to working from home, she was my go-to guru for help with Teams, Zoom, and SharePoint. Any time I’ve made mistakes she’s always extraordinarily kind and patient. I respect her commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, her dazzling depth of knowledge, as well as her tremendous efforts at employee engagement. Some of my favorite memories as a new Shoreline employee come from events she created or coordinated. She’s just a joy to work with – incredibly creative and fun. I wish I’d had the opportunity to work with her more over the past year. I can only say thank you, Pilar, from the bottom of my heart, for all you’ve done for me and this entire campus. I hope you know how amazing you are.”

A Wave of Gratitude for Student Equity and Success from Lucy Casale for Inclusive Excellence, Respect, Student Engagement and Community Engagement:

”I would like to thank everyone of my colleagues in Student Equity and Success for an amazing 8 month experience at Shoreline College. I am honored to have worked with a group of truly inclusive and respectful individuals, who are committed to serving students and ensuring that the Shoreline experience is the best it can be. Collectively, they put the “community” in community college. I am hopeful that our paths will someday cross again.”

A Wave of Gratitude for Jennifer Fenske and team from Danica Totten for student engagement:

“A BIG Thank You to Jennifer Fenske and Team (Raisa Minchuk in particular) for processing over 190 student reimbursements for Honorlock! We couldn’t have done it without you!”

A Wave of Gratitude for Kim Streizt from Danica Totten for student engagement:

“Kim Streitz, thank you for lending a helping hand when Honorlock reimbursement checks were returned to the College due to an outdated address. You were gracious in your investment of time as you tracked down students so they could get their money.”

A Wave of Gratitude for the Custodial Department from Emiliano Gamboa:

“Custodian Department at the College is the MVP at the College. I’ve been on Campus the whole time during the closure and I’ve watched them do their job tremendously. I’ve seen them in common areas and not so common areas you’d never think needing to be cleaned taking care of business. I commend the Custodian crew for doing an outstanding job keeping this Campus clean.”

**Submit a wave of gratitude for your fellow colleagues.**
