Presidential Recruitment

The Presidential Screening Committee has selected 10 candidates to meet with for the 1st round interviews in the selection process. The 1st round candidates selected came from a robust pool of 34 applicants representing individuals from the Washington community and technical college system as well as other local and national educational institutions.  The Committee will conduct the 1st round interviews on February 1-2, 2022, via zoom interview sessions. These sessions will be closed to the public to ensure the confidentiality of the applicants are maintained until the finalist interview sessions occurring February 15-18, 2022. More info on the finalist interview activities with campus will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.

As a reminder, the Presidential Screening Committee is chaired by classified staff member Tirzah Williamson. The Committee is composed of representation across the student, classified staff, faculty, and administrative constituency groups at Shoreline including participation from community members and two Trustees from the College Board.

Following the 1st round interviews, the Screening Committee will identify the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate interviewed in relation to the posted position profile. The strengths and weaknesses identified, based on the 1st round applicants submitted materials and interview responses, will determine those invited as finalists to the position.

Communication and updates regarding the Presidential Search process can be found online HERE. Alternately, questions regarding the Presidential Search Process can be directed to administrative liaison Veronica Zura by email at vzura@shoreline.edu at any time.

SCC: Waves of Gratitude

Waves of Gratitude for Susan Teft of Parent Education
for Inclusive Excellence, Respect, Student Engagement, and Community Engagement. Susan stepped into the Parent Child Center and hit the floor running. She has gotten us through staff shortages, snow closures, and a pandemic! Her leadership is inspiring.
– Anonymous Shoreline staff member

Waves of Gratitude for Ric Doike-Foreman of Technology Support Services
For Respect and student engagement. I am so very thankful for the time and effort that Ric put in while dealing with the several technology issues that our office faced in the last couple of weeks. He was immediate to respond, incredibly supportive though I recognize our issue took a huge amount of time out of his very busy schedule, and I know that he (along with everyone at TSS) is someone we can rely on to assist us when needed. Thank you for your dedication and hard work, Ric!

As a reminder, for those wishing to acknowledge the work of fellow shoreline staff members or a group at Shoreline, you need only submit a Waves of Gratitude form for individuals or a Shoreline Shoutout for groups.  Thanks from the Employee Recognition Committee – Rob, Wanda, Megan, and Hoshimi.

Campus Updates- All Staff (01/20/22)

Hi Campus Community,

Here are this week’s updates!

RETURN TO CAMPUS/COVID-19

  • Classes: winter 2022 classes continue as planned: in-person, hybrid, and online.
  • Vaccinations:
  • 92% of in-person students have attested to their vaccination status or have claimed an eligible exemption for winter quarter.
  • You now can get Pfizer and Moderna vaccine boosters 5 months (instead of 6 months) after completing the original vaccine series. Children ages 12 and up are now recommended to receive a booster as well.  See CDC statements on Pfizer and on Moderna. Boosters are available at the vaccine clinic in the Quiet Dining Room in the PUB. Walk-ins are welcome if you tell them you are a Shoreline Community College employee.
  • Cases: Executive Team (ET) is closely monitoring the changing conditions of the pandemic, including the number of COVID-19 exposure reports submitted daily by students, staff, and faculty. Reported positive cases remain very low. Here are the numbers since the first day of winter quarter (January 10):
  • Student positive cases: 26, which is 0.5% of total winter students.
  • Employee positive cases: 12, which is 1.7% of total college employees.

While Omicron has a significantly higher transmission rate, it typically is showing to have less severe symptoms in vaccinated individuals than other variants, and for a shorter period of time.

  • Masks:
  • KN-95 masks have been distributed to front-line staff and to faculty who are teaching in-person.
  • Buy from a trusted source. Project N95 vets mask distributors. Armbrust USA, is a company that makes and sells medical-grade masks made in the U.S.A. by various manufacturers.
  • PCC: the Parent Child Center has reopened.
  • Curbside Drop-off/Pick-up: contactless drop-off/pick-up service continues Monday-Wednesday 10am-3 pm in room 2905, but closes permanently on January 27th. Laptop pick-up and return is available through the Library (4000 Building) Monday-Thursday, 8am-5pm.
  • Have questions? Email covidsupervisor@shoreline.edu or call 206-495-7744 during regular College operating hours.
  • Check the COVID-19 Updates site for the latest information.

Technology purchases, requests, and Web requests may be delayed

As TSS and Web Support complete final preparation for ctcLink and the deadline for purchases and other processes, staff are having to prioritize must-complete work and are needing to ask requestors to wait for some requests.

Technology Purchasing

Technology purchases that have not already been received by TSS – and existing orders of individual systems – may not happen before the January 26 central purchasing office deadline. TSS’ purchaser Is focused on completing work that can’t be delayed, such as paying large invoices, completing final credit card reconciliation, and closing out in-process large purchases. New and non-critical technology purchases often require review by technicians, multiple clarifying communications, work with multiple vendors, and may require an amount of work that can’t be completed in time to get the order to the purchasing office by the deadline.

Web Support

Web support is focused on critical preparation for ctcLink, such as preparing the replacement pages and instructions for students and employees who will be using the new system, and finding and replacing references to legacy systems in PDFs, Formstack forms, and other media. Some requests for new web projects or page modifications will be delayed so that even more critical preparation work can be completed.

Application Development

New web projects and changes to existing projects and systems will be delayed. Our application developer is focused on implementing the new local copy of State Board data, transitioning all of our key supplemental systems such as Canvas, RAVE, Starfish, and locally-developed systems to function after the transition, and implementing new methods for students and employees to log in and reset their passwords.

New Software Purchases, Vendors, and Projects

New projects, software purchases, and connections to new vendors will be delayed. This will permit sufficient time to prepare as well as possible for the critical transition to ctcLink and implementing new support systems, support personnel, and processes.

TSS is focused on customer support and we prefer not to delay responses to requests, but we need to prioritize critical work in the short time remaining before ctcLink. We appreciate everyone’s patience and will work to respond to delayed requests as quickly as possible.

Thanks,

Gavin Smith
Acting Director
Technology Support Services
