Changes in Campus Outreach & Recruitment Structure

Dear Colleague,

As part of our continued Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) efforts, there will be a change in the structure of the College’s outreach and recruitment work to improve incoming students’ experience as they engage, enroll, and onboard at Shoreline.

After soliciting input from staff in these areas, a new Department of Outreach & Recruitment will be formed with existing staff as of February 22:

  • Inez Olive, Outreach Recruiter, will become the lead for this area as Director of Outreach & Recruitment
  • Russell Dorsey, Outreach and Recruitment Support Specialist
  • Susie Schroeder, Recruitment & Enrollment Communications Specialist
  • Amy Stapleton, Outreach Recruiter

The new team will report to Lisa Malik, Acting Dean of Access and Advising, and will continue to partner closely with Communications & Marketing and Workforce Education. The change will allow for greater internal coordination opportunities as students flow from recruiters, to Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, Advising, and other student service areas.

No new positions were created in this process and salary adjustments for additional responsibilities were accomplished through savings from other position changes in the Office of Students, Equity & Success.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
President

Save the Date: Day of Learning is April 30!

Dear Colleague,

Please mark your calendars for our all-campus Day of Learning event this spring! This will be an exciting opportunity for us to take a day to come together virtually, learn together, and build on our great legacy of creating an inclusive campus culture of support and care. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Learning Team (DEI-LT) is working hard to develop the day’s content and coordinate the logistics with key associate deans to make this a successful event for all of us.

2021 Day of Learning

This year’s event will take place on Friday, April 30, 2021, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

  • The Day of Learning Intranet page will be updated shortly and will be a centralized place where you can find event information.
  • A SharePoint site is being built now, where all event links, schedules, and learning materials will be stored (this link will be added to the Intranet page in the near future).
  • Additional pre-event learning opportunities will be shared with you via email in advance of the event.
  • All staff and full-time faculty are expected to participate in this daylong event; part-time faculty are welcome to attend but are not required to participate.
  • Classes will be canceled, and campus services will be closed on this day to facilitate maximum employee participation.

This Year’s Theme is “How Do We Foster Inclusive Change at Shoreline?”

Diversity. Equity. Inclusion. We know these words are part of Shoreline’s values, but a lack of consensus on their meaning has made it difficult to embody them and facilitate sustainable changes on our campus. Key questions also face us: How can we navigate difficult conversations about campus culture? How do our unique perspectives shape our understanding of institutional inequities? The goal for this year’s Day of Learning is to learn skills and gain knowledge that will create a more inclusive campus culture for supporting each other and serving our students. While engaging in sessions that center DEI, we will put our shared definitions into individual and collective action, and continue to work on our ongoing commitment to inclusive excellence and institutional change.

Please watch for additional information in the coming and weeks, as we build out more pre-event learning opportunities for you. Looking forward to engaging in this important work together.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.

Take the 2021 Safety Survey by Feb 19

Hello Shoreline Community College community,

Please take a few minutes to complete a short safety survey…with questions about workplace safety that are relevant for each of us.  Each year, the DES State Office of Risk Management, together with the State Agency Safety Professionals Alliance (SASPA), administers the safety survey.  The 2021 Safety Survey will be open for all state employees through February 19, 2021 and can be found here.

Because many state employees spent time teleworking as a result of the pandemic, this year’s survey provides answer options for teleworkers as well as an additional question that will allow agencies to see their results by employees who primarily teleworked in last 12 months and those who did not.

The survey contains language in the Introduction that provides the following clarification for employees who primarily teleworked during the last 12 months:  The term “workplace”, “work area” or “work site” is used frequently throughout this survey. These terms refer to your home or any location that you have been or are currently teleworking.

The intent of the survey is to enhance our culture of worker safety.  State agencies use survey results to develop a safety action plan for addressing the issues identified.  Survey information will help Shoreline Community College Safety Managers, Safety Officers and Safety Committee members evaluate our safety program, identify gaps and plan safety initiatives to enhance employee workplace safety.

The survey is anonymous.  Results will be collected by the DES State Office of Risk Management, then tallied and sent in summary form to each state agency. To complete the survey, please click this link.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

VP for Business & Administrative Services

Updated Suspended Operations Memo

Good Afternoon All,

With the potential for snow looming this week, please find the updated 2020-21 Suspended Operations memo from President Roberts for your review and reference.  To ensure you’re signed up to receive emergency alerts, please check your communication settings at www.shoreline.edu/connect.

As the College is currently operating in predominantly remote operations, situations where an employee is unable to work from home due to inclement weather are anticipated to be limited this year. With this mind, employees will be expected to continue work in remote operations (including online instruction and all other remote services) unless campus is notified that all College services have been closed.

Noting that individual employees may be impacted by local power outages or other technology interruptions due to weather, supervisors should utilize HR in support of identifying options such as flexed schedules, alternate locations, and/or leave available depending on the specific needs of the situation.

Questions? Please feel free to contact HR by email at scchr@shoreline.edu at any time.

Thank you,

Veronica Zura
